June Brown sent 'EastEnders' set photos to young soap fan on disposable camera

EastEnders star June Brown once posted behind-the-scenes of herself on set as Dot Cotton to a young fan who sent her a disposable camera.

The soap actor has died at the age of 95 and will always be remembered as chain-smoking laundrette manager Dot, one of the original residents of Albert Square when the BBC soap launched in 1985.

EastEnders fan Shaun from Birmingham has revealed Brown posted the camera back to him with pictures on, after he wrote to her as a child to express his disappointment that the soap did not offer set tours.

He shared the images of the soap legend posing in her signature laundrette apron, smoking a cigarette in the cafe, having a drink in The Queen Vic pub and posing in Dot's flat.

He wrote: "As a kid, gutted that EastEnders didn't do set tours, I sent #JuneBrown a disposable camera & asked if she could snap some set pics for me instead - the kindnesses of her heart she took time out to snap these for me. What a legend. #RIPJuneBrown #EastEnders."

Brown also sent him a signed headshot, with a note reading "Hope the photos are ok, it was quite difficult to get them, love Dot."

Other soap fans have been sharing their memories and sightings of Brown on social media.

Maxine Mackie tweeted: "I met #JuneBrown at Heathrow years ago, asked her to sign my newspaper for my Mum and she said oh I can do better than that, and got out the laundrette pic from EastEnders and signed it... I told her @floellabenjamin sat behind me and she said ooh I like 'er 'Flo over ere!" [sp]'

Joanna Bevan shared: "my memory of the late dot, I was 11 years old I saw her In Tesco doing her weekly shop shouted that’s Dot cotton she was lovely her daughter asked my dad if we could go outside to give us a signed photograph as her shop would take 2 hours [sp]."

Patrick Mulkern revealed: "I loved June Brown and her brilliant portrayal of Dot Cotton. I first met her in the 80s when she spent a day in a dry cleaners/laundrette in Covent Garden – as herself not Dot –being hilariously daft and camp while tirelessly raising funds for an Aids charity."

Emma Maynard wrote on Twitter: "I once met #JuneBrown in the ladies’ at a wedding. She was fabulous - funny, approachable and kind. We had a giggle over my dress malfunction."

Anton Starch posted: "One of the most memorable concerts I ever saw was @janesiberry at the Union Chapel in Islington, London. After the show when Jane was mingling with fans, I saw #JuneBrown chatting with her. I realised at that moment that June B was not just an iconic actor, but also cool af."

And Leonie Hirst remembered: "I saw her on the tube once. I was too shy to say anything but I smiled at her and she BEAMED back at me. Best tube journey."
