Jones Road's new Miracle Balm could be its prettiest shade yet
Liberty London has a new best seller. Not a pair of Ganni leopard-print trousers, a cool heritage print collab or even the much coveted Liberty advent calendar. No, the buy that flies out of this iconic store faster than any other – and I mean across every department – is a chunky pot of multi-use colour from makeup artist Bobbi Brown’s second solo venture: Jones Road Miracle Balm.
But here's the thing. Almost anyone with a passing interest in makeup will have heard of Miracle Balm but not everyone understands it, which is why this latest stat is so wildly impressive. It’s an oddity, is Miracle Balm; a sheer solid gloss in 13 shades that range from clear to a deep plummy chocolate. There’s even an ‘if you know, you know’ knack to using it, because unless you dig through the surface to break the seal then warm the product in your fingers or on the back of your hand first, you’ll think you’ve come home with an absolute dud. But get it right and you too will be adding to the word of mouth phenomena that is Jones Road Miracle Balm.
Here it is in the words of Jones Road founder Bobbi Brown, as she chatted to Red on the day her latest shade, Pinky Bronze, landed in the UK...
‘What would I say to someone who’s never tried Miracle Balm? The colour you choose depends on the way you’re going to use it. It can tint or colour correct your skin or it could be used as a blush or a highlighter. You could wear it alone or you could wear it on top of a foundation. It works really well for people dry skin, but people with oily skin can absolutely use it too – wear it over your face powder, then it gives the illumination without feeling greasy. It's just super versatile and I don't know what I'd do without it.'
As someone who 'wakes up and needs the glow everywhere', Brown applies Miracle Balm (her shade is the reddish brown Tawny) all over her face as a colour correcting tint and also – she tells me – lightly over her arms and legs. Snap; because my favourite is also Tawny, but because I have my own decent amount of glow and not quite as much yellow in my skin as Brown, I use it on the tops of my cheeks and over the bridge of my nose, to create that wind-burnt kind of flush that looks outdoorsy and modern. In fact, I'd urge everyone to give Tawny a try. It might look off-puttingly bold in the pot, but it's that cool-hued kind of red that adds colour and sheen without making you look flushed.
While anything goes with Miracle Balm, Brown advises that the shades with a tiny amount of shimmer work well on the tops of the cheeks while the 'blushier' shades sit well on the cheeks themselves. Which brings us to the latest shade of Pinky Bronze.
Pinky Bronze started life as a 'little teeny lipstick' casually created by Brown to hand out to friends at a Halloween party. Used off-piste as a blush as well as on the lips, the colour was the biggest hit and now comes to us as a multi-use product. Here's Brown again.
‘Pinky Bronze is one of those colours that works on so many people – it's definitely gonna be one of the top sellers. You can use it as a blusher, as a bronzer, as a highlighter and on your lips. I use it everywhere. I mean, you're not supposed to, but I even use it on my eyelids.'
Being another cool-toned hue that adds colour without too much warmth, I'm as thrilled with Pinky Bronze as Brown is. New stat incoming: it's already contributed to the second highest day of sales since Miracle Balm launched, which is quite something when you consider that one Miracle Balm is sold worldwide every 30 seconds, with over one million sold every year.
