Social media users have been left alarmed by Jon Voight’s new video endorsing pro-Trump conspiracy theories.

The actor and father of Angelina Jolie released a two-minute clip on Twitter yesterday (11 November) calling Donald Trump’s legal battle against the election results the “greatest fight since the Civil War”.

Voight – an outspoken Republican and Trump supporter – railed against “evil” Democrats, saying he was “disgusted with this lie” that Joe Biden had won.

In one portion of the clip, the 81-year-old compared the President-elect to “Satan”.

The video, which is labelled by Twitter as disputed, has been watched over 2.5 million times. Viewers have been quick to share their thoughts on the controversial clip.

Actor Tom Arnold retweeted Voight’s post, adding: “The good old Jon Voight didn’t need cue cards. This is a G-d damn hostage video! Please save Angelina Jolie’s dad!!!”

Others have reported the video to Twitter, claiming the clip is “inciting violence”. Actor Emma Kennedy kept her criticism short, commenting: “Thanks. I’ve reported you.”

Many users have responded to Voight’s tweet by simply linking to articles – notably this New York Times piece – that disprove Trump’s claims of voter fraud.

The reactions were not all criticism, however, with many Trump supporters praising Voight for sharing the clip.

One user wrote: “Precisely! Good versus evil. Most are sadly blinded to the evil they follow. Satan is the master of deceit.” To which another joked: “Why is Satan so keen on giving Americans universal health care?”

Responding to the news of Biden’s victory on 7 November, the current president issued a statement declaring his intentions to challenge the election result.

In the clip, Voight called the impending legal proceedings a “battle of righteousness versus Satan”. He doubled down on his point, stating: “Yes, Satan. Because these leftists are evil, corrupt and they want to tear down this nation.”

The Midnight Cowboy star called on his fans to fight for Trump, declaring: “We must not allow this, we must fight this corruption that has taken over and fight for the good that seems lost.

“Let us give our trust to God and fight now for Trump's victory because we all know this ballot count is corruption like they are.”
