John Lewis reveals its Christmas decorating trends
Christmas might feel like it's way off, but at major retailers like John Lewis, the festive season has already started.
The department store has shared its Christmas decorating trends for 2024 and this year, there are four key themes inspired by a celebration of contrasts: Sugar and Spice, Wisdom and Wonder, Dawn and Dusk and Trinket and Treasure.
Alongside these themes, the retailer has highlighted some key decor trends to look out for this festive season – including all things pink. "Key trends for this Christmas will include playful supersized wreaths and oversized bows taking centre stage as we expect ‘doorscaping’ and playing with scale to be popular with our customers," says Lisa Cherry, Head of Christmas at John Lewis.
"2024 sees the debut of our very first pink Christmas tree as part of Sugar & Spice, a colour we predict will be a big hit for the festive period," adds Lisa. "We believe baubles will be chosen as gifting items this year, with trend-led options including a mirror ball cherry, glasses wearing sausage dog and retro sweet treats all perfect for secret Santa. Our team of in-house designers pushed creative boundaries by using AI for the first time to create gift wrap and snow globes, combined with the more traditional techniques of hand painting, collaging, block printing and lino cutting."
If you're already planning your Christmas decor or you're keen to upgrade your tree decorations this year, take a look at what's on offer at John Lewis below.
Sugar and Spice
"Disco balls, sequin stockings and LOTS of pink; that’s what to expect from this joyful theme," says John Lewis. The standout pieces in this collection include the retailer's first pink Christmas tree, oversized sequin bows, candy striped glassware, sparkling stockings and sweet gingerbread characters.
Wisdom and Wonder
For a more refined take on Christmas, look to the elegant Wisdom and Wonder theme. Colours here are more classic, with burnt orange tones mixed with black and metallics. Look out for the black and white paper mâché baubles, the shooting star wreath and the gold resin tabletop tree.
Dawn and Dusk
This rustic theme is "inspired by mystical winter woodlands". Expect to see rich burgundy and emerald tones with plenty of velvet which adds a grown-up look and feel to this trend. Think red velvet bows and stockings, red berry garlands and poinsettia wreaths. When it comes to baubles, the glass robins, felt woodland creatures and fabric moons will make for a unique seasonal tree.
Trinket and Treasure
"This theme feels distinctively wholesome and is inspired by world travel, combining embroidery details and felt textures for a charming hand-crafted element," says John Lewis. Tablewear includes quilted placements and painted glasses, with baubles made from twine and recycled denim adding a homely finishing touch to the tree.
