Joely Richardson praises UK's new-found 'celebration' of older women
Joely Richardson has praised the UK's new-found "celebration" of older women as she experiences a career renaissance in her 50s.
The 57-year-old actress – who stars in Netflix's The Sandman and the upcoming Lady Chatterley’s Lover – said the country has followed in the footsteps of France with its attitude to female ageing.
She told the Mail on Sunday's You magazine: "Certainly in the UK, it feels as if there is more celebration of older women, in the way the French always have.
"It’s like Shakespeare’s seven ages – you want to play all of them."
Richardson, who is the daughter of Tony Richardson and Vanessa Redgrave, first made her screen debut aged three in 1968's The Charge of the Light Brigade.
However, she has become known in her own right more recently with roles in the TV series Nip/Tuck and The Tudors.

Richardson also commented on how much the culture has changed on film sets in recent years.
She particularly highlighted the establishment of intimacy coordinators, who are responsible for aiding in the creation of sex scenes in a safe way.
The mother-of-one said: "I'm really glad for this generation that there are systems in place to protect them."
She shares 30-year-old daughter Daisy, also an actress, with her ex-husband Tim Bevan – who she divorced in 2001.

Elsewhere in the interview, Richardson noted that the younger generation are "spectacularly interesting" and "so much smarter".
She revealed that she had only got Instagram this year having been "staunchly against it" in order to show more of herself than red carpet photos.
