Joe Wicks' new series, School Night Dinner Winners, aims to help families put healthy food on the table without breaking the bank - a welcomed relief for what can be an expensive time of the year between Christmas looming and rising heating costs to beat the chill.

As the nights get colder and darker with each day that passes, it's time to start think about delicious, filling and comforting meals that will satisfy hungry tummies and fussy eaters so Asda has partnered with Joe Wicks (@thebodycoach) to create speedy, nutritious and purse-friendly recipes. Even better news for mums and dads - they're packed with goodness in every bite!

Joe's recipes can be recreated in just 20 minutes and serve a family of up to six, and with minimal cooking hassle during the working week, this slow cooker chicken curry will really hit the spot.

For extra hungry mouths, try adding a small naan bread to mop up that lovely sauce.

Slow cooker chicken curry

Serves 4 - 6

Chicken curry
Joe's chicken curry will be a crowd pleaser at meal times - and ready in just 4 steps

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp plain flour

  • 2 tbsp mild curry powder

  • 1 tsp ground turmeric

  • 400g chicken breast

  • 400ml tin reduced fat coconut milk

  • 300g tin carrots and peas

  • 2 x 250g basmati or wholegrain micro

  • Rice (or one of each, mixed together)

1. Combine the flour, turmeric and curry powder in a large mixing bowl, season and toss in the chicken to coat.

2. Add the coconut milk to the slow cooker, stir in the chicken then cover and cook on medium for 5-6 hrs or low for 6-8 hrs, until the chicken is tender and falling apart and the sauce has thickened slightly.

3. Microwave the carrots and peas according to pack instructions and stir through the curry.

4.Cook the rice according to pack instructions and serve with the curry.
