Joanna Lumley’s old fashioned way of keeping in touch with husband when travelling
Joanna Lumley has revealed her very old fashioned, but quite sweet, way of keeping in touch with her husband when travelling.
The 73-year-old actress revealed she often goes weeks without speaking to her other half and, even though she misses him, opts to send postcards from abroad rather than calling him.
Speaking to Woman's Weekly magazine, she said: “It is hard leaving my husband, my home, garden and cats, and it feels like a terribly long time, but I try not to miss things.”
Joanna is married to 65-year-old composer Stephen Barlow.
“I don't call my husband while I'm gone,” she admitted.
“I tend to keep in touch with postcards because I'm old-fashioned. But the ones I sent in Cuba were never seen again.”
The Absolutely Fabulous star was there recording her upcoming two-part documentary Joanna Lumley’s Hidden Caribbean which explores Cuba and Haiti.
She and Stephen have been married since 1986 and they live in London together.
Speaking about her husband in 2018, she said: "I suppose we’re quite romantic. We write notes to each other every day. Some of them are about simple things, like: ‘Don’t forget to take something out of the freezer for dinner!’, but some are more meaningful."
A former Prima cover star, Joanna previously opened up about her secret to happiness.
“Happiness is a discipline,” she told us in 2017.
“If you say, ‘How lovely this is,’ you will make it lovely.”
She added: “I think I was born lucky, with an optimistic nature, but happiness is a choice.”
