JLo's embellished spiderweb black lace naked dress is so on theme for her new film
Ask any celebrity fashion fan with their finger on the pulse and they'll no doubt tell you that the beginning of the year is prime time for red carpet A-list looks. With awards szn in full swing plus the Sundance Film Festival held annually in Utah, there's no shortage of gilded glamour on show. Case in point: Jennifer Lopez, who showed up for the premiere of her latest film Kiss Of The Spider Woman on Sunday [26 January] night in a dress that revived method dressing.
For the occasion, the artist, actor, dancer, entrepreneur and mother (did we miss anything?) opted for a Valdrin Sahiti black lace figure-hugging gown. Featuring embellished crystal detailing in a double spiderweb motif that spanned almost the entire dress, the design was a homage to JLo's character of Ingrid Luna, said spider woman in the film adaptation of the musical of the same name.
With a nude underlay along with diamanté corsages positioned at the centre of each cobweb on JLo's left shoulder and right hip, the dress managed to tick off two additional trends, naked dressing and 3D florals. Similarly, the high-neck, long-sleeve silhouette featured a rear leg slit that provided plenty of opportunity to show off her back rosette strap platform heels.
However, it is the spiderweb accent that really steals the show. Though it's far from the first time we've seen this form of method dressing. While promoting Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021, Zendaya donned an Alexander McQueen oversized grey blazer dress and sheer tights, both of which were entirely adorned with glittery cobwebs. More recently, both Dakota Johnson and Sydney Sweeney incorporated spider-web-adorned naked dresses into their red carpet wardrobes while on the promo tour for their joint film, Marvel's Madame Web this time last year.
But, full praise needs to go to JLo's afterparty 'fit. Keeping the method dressing theme going, Jen ditched her dress for a totally sheer catsuit entirely covered from neck to ankle in a giant sparkling spiderweb design. A floor-sweeping faux fur coat was a stylish (and practical, it's freezing in Utah) addition that kept her dramatic outfit change under wraps. Literally.
