“I was so honored to host Baby2Baby’s Back2School event to help distribute new backpacks, school supplies, clothing and more to students across New York City and then give them a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play on the court at Madison Square Garden,” Chastain wrote on Instagram.

The Oscar-winning actress eventually took to the court herself, trying her hand at shooting hoops.

Baby2Baby partnered with New York City public schools for their Back2School event. Last year, the organization assisted more than 200,000 children in the area.

“Today was incredible and such a meaningful opportunity to give back in a tangible way,” Chastain said in a press release. “I’m so honored to participate in Baby2Baby’s back-to-school event and provide the critical items that will help vulnerable students in New York have a brighter future.”

“Modern Family” star Julie Bowen was also in attendance, as were Baby2Baby’s co-chief executive officers, Norah Weinstein and Kelly Sawyer Patricof.

Last month, Chastain appeared at the red carpet premiere of her newest film, “Memory,” during the Venice International Film Festival. The actress opted for a glamorous Gucci gown, which featured a plunging collared neckline and layers of rose gold sequins. Chastain accessorized with a diamond cocktail ring and chandelier earrings by Bulgari.

“Memory” was one of the few productions given the go-ahead by the Screen Actors Guild union despite the ongoing strike, which commenced in July. The union’s current interim agreement approves the production and promotion of independent films.

Chastain has vocalized her support of the union, attending a protest in New York earlier this summer. While she said she was “incredibly nervous” to attend the Venice Film Festival, the actress added that she recognizes “how lucky [she is].”

“It’s a wonderful profession, what we get to do as actors and because of that we are often made to feel like we have to be quiet in order to protect future work opportunities,” Chastain said at a press conference. “That is the environment that I think has allowed workplace abuse.”
