Jessica Chastain breaks this one cardinal fashion rule at George & Tammy premiere event

There are so many laughable notions and old wives tales about colour, and that we all  apparently suit some wearing some hues better than others.

According to The Colour File some of the old sayings go; 'red and yellow catch a fellow,' 'pink and green fit for a queen,' but one of the most memorable is 'red and green should never be seen.'

Well, Jessica Chastain is here to prove that these time-honoured cliches are anything but accurate. She glowed in green as she attended the George & Tammy premiere event last night at Goya Studios in Los Angeles, which contrasted perfectly against her auburn tresses, proving that red and green should always be seen.

She already showed us how redheads can rock orange, (which in the past has always been seen as something of a no-no.) This time however, the 45-year-old fashion maverick chose a lime green, halter neck Michael Kors dress for the premiere event of her upcoming series. Enough to make anybody green with envy, the backless gown featured a stunning cowl-neckline. Though she wears her hair blonde for her portrayal of Tammy Wynette, she donned her signature red hair in a pulled-back ponytail, which kept all the attention on the luminous ensemble. Her enviably long locks ran all the way down the length of her bare back, just skimming the zip fastening of the dress.

She let her gown do the talking, eschewing wrist accessories or rings (other than her wedding rings) in favour of a pair of dangly Gucci earrings, which is unsurprising given that she is the face of the Italian heritage brand's fine jewellery collection.

The highly anticipated series is based on the 2011 book The Three of Us: Growing Up with Tammy and George written by Georgette Jones. Tammy Wynette, remembered as “the First Lady of country music’, was a singer whose hits included Stand By Your Man and a cover of It wasn’t God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels with Dolly Parton and Loretta Lynn. The episodes follow Tammy’s tumultuous relationship with fellow singer George Jones, played by Michael Shannon in the six-part limited series.

Chastain told Kelly Clarkson that she’s nervous as she is singing as part of the role. But if her singing ability is anything like her dress sense and her acting, we’re sure it’s going to be top notch.
