Is Jenna Ortega's cherry cola hair signalling the return of red?
For those with a penchant for the gothic, an allegiance to all things spooky isn't just for Halloween, it's for life — something that Jenna Ortega knows well.
The actress' dark allure has seen her take on the role of Wednesday Addams in Netflix show Wednesday, star in the 2024 comedy-horror sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice alongside Winona Ryder, and now embrace her latest project, A24's Death of a Unicorn.
In proper form, Ortega stepped out at a special screening of the film in New York wearing a black cut-out dress by David Koma and sporting a new deep cherry cola hair shade.
Fans got a glimpse of the shade at the SXSW film festival earlier this week when the actress wore her hair in a low side-parted ponytail, but her new hair colour was unveiled in its full glory yesterday. For the screening, hair stylist Bobby Eliot let Ortega's hair fall loose down her back in a slightly off-centre parting, with a super-glossy straight finish, save for a few face-framing tendrils. The actress' new shade was very apparent as the light shone off the cherry-tinged hue.
Her make-up also stayed true to the gothic approach, as she did during her Beetlejuice Beetlejuice press tour, with make-up artist Vincent Oquendo using all Dior beauty products to attain her double-winged smokey eyeliner look. Oquendo applied the Diorshow On Stage Crayon in Black with the 5 Couleurs Eye Palettes in Pied-de-Poule and Nude Dentelle on her eyes, coating her lashes with the Diorshow Mascara. For her soft lip look, he layered Rouge Dior Velvet Finish in Nude Look with Dior Addict Lip Glow in Rosewood.
It was only last month that Ortega was sporting the jet-black hair colour associated with her character in Wednesday, with her change to cherry perhaps alluding to the fact that filming for season two of the series — due to be released this year — has wrapped.
