Jenna Ortega's Beetlejuice 2 gets update and release date

Wednesday star Jenna Ortega's Beetlejuice 2 has received some major updates.

First off, the Warner Bros. film will begin production in London tomorrow, May 10, before hitting the big screen on September 6, 2024 (via Variety).

In addition, we knew Winona Ryder was set to reprise her role as Lydia Deetz in the sequel movie, but now we also know that Jenna is confirmed to play Lydia's daughter. She was said to be in early negotiations for the role back in March.

Not much more information is available about the film, though we do know that Michael Keaton will return as the titular Beetlejuice and Justin Theroux will star in an unknown role.

In Tim Burton's original Beetlejuice film from 1988, Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin star as a married couple named Barbara and Adam Maitland.

When the couple dies in a car crash, the wealthy Deetz family move into their home. Barbara and Adam are then tasked with haunting their own house in an attempt to get rid of the unwanted guests.

Struggling to muster the scares, the Maitlands enlist the help of Keaton's 'bio-exorcist' Beetlejuice — and end up getting more than they bargained for.

Brad Pitt's production company Plan B will produce the long-awaited sequel, while Mike Vukadinovich has penned the screenplay.

Jenna Ortega previously opened up about her relationship with director Tim Burton, describing him as a "legend" after he convinced her to star in Wednesday.

Following a meeting with director and executive producer Tim, Jenna finally agreed to take on the role of Wednesday Addams, after turning it down "a couple times".

Beetlejuice 2 will hit cinemas on September 6, 2024.
