Jenna Bush Hager Pulled an April Fool’s Day Prank on Her Kids That Made Them Cry: ‘I Tried’
The 'Today with Hoda & Jenna' co-host is mom to daughters Mila and Poppy and son Hal
Jenna Bush Hager had a difficult April Fool's Day this year.
On Tuesday's episode of Today with Hoda & Jenna, the mom of three, 42, talked about the April Fool's Day prank she played on her kids Mila, 10, Poppy, 8, and Hal, 4, that went wrong. Bush Hager shares her kids with husband Henry Hager, 45.
Saying that she was looking forward to April 2 because her April 1 "went a little too long," Bush Hager revealed that her family had "a multitude of April Fools pranks coming from every single way. I mean, I was ducking from an April Fool’s prank."
"What happened?" co-host Hoda Kotb, 59, asked.

"Well first — and this was my doing — I had Hal, who is 4, we warmed some beans up in the microwave," Bush Hager explained. "I tried to take a play out of George Clooney’s book. He was supposed to go to sleep but we waited for Henry to come home. We had already set it up where I told Henry, ‘Yeah, everything fine but Hal’s stomach is not great, not great.’"
Bush Hager said her son practiced multiple times, but the prank didn't go as planned.
"I put them in a small little cup," she said of the beans. "We hid in the living room. Hall practiced multiple times: ‘Ouch, Daddy! My stomach hurts! Oh no, I pooped my pants!’ And then wipe it on Henry."
Kotb then asked how the prank went.
"So we had it planned. Hal was like, ‘It’s go time it’s go time!’ Ran in. ‘Dad, ooh, my stomach, I pooped my pants’ and wiped it all over Henry’s clothes. He was like, ‘Dude, these are…’ It didn’t work. But then, I’ll show you exhibit b," the proud mom said, showing a picture of her cellophane-wrapped toilet. "Mila has wrapped the toilet in cellophane."
"Did you fall for it?" Kotb asked.
"Uh… Henry did! So I had to call her in and say, ‘Now you need to clean up a 45-year-old man’s…" Bush Hager trailed off. "Pee pee?" Kotb filled in for her friend.
Bush Hager then shared her husband's prank, for which he claimed he'd hit a deer. But the day took a turn for the worse when Bush Hager tried to fool her kids.
"I told the kids that Holly’s neutering didn’t work and she was pregnant with Mango’s kittens,' Bush Hager said of her cat.
"What is wrong with you?" Kotb asked.
"Um… they fell for it and when I told her it wasn’t true? Tears. They thought they were going to have kittens. So anyway," Bush Hager lamented.
"We have to delete April Fool’s Day. That was not good. But the poop thing was the best one," Kotb told Bush Hager.
Noting that she "tried," Bush Hager said that she's so happy that it's not April Fool's Day anymore.
