Jameela Jamil says she gets racist death threats after Piers Morgan ‘implied she was responsible’ for Caroline Flack’s suicide

Jameela Jamil has accused Piers Morgan of using Caroline Flack’s death to “harass” her and said she receives racist death threats because of his actions.

On Tuesday night (30 June), Jamil posted a screenshot of a message from a member of the public in which she is blamed for the suicide of the Love Island presenter and called a “f***ing p***”. The message also contains rape and death threats.

In a caption alongside the screenshot, actor and presenter Jamil wrote: “I get messages like this every day because @piersmorgan implied that I was responsible for Caroline’s death just because she and I had a mild disagreement about her TV shows, where I wasn’t actually criticising her, 8 months before she passed. The media killed her, not me.”

Jamil accused Good Morning Britain host Morgan of using “a dead woman’s message out of context to harass me” by posting a “text conversation he had with Caroline that consisted of three lines, no time signature and no context".

When approached by The Independent for comment, Morgan said: "Jameela Jamil playing the victim again is not news."

In February, Morgan had shared a screenshot of a direct message Flack allegedly sent to him in October 2019.

It read: “Please have pictures ... I’m struggling with Jameela ... the hate she aims at me.”

The comments are thought to be in reference to criticism Jamil made on Twitter regarding a Channel 4 programme Flack was set to host titled The Surjury, in which people who want plastic surgery pitch their reasons why to a jury.

“Jameela Jamil is having a lot to say about online harassment, so in the interests of balance, here is a message Caroline Flack sent me last October after the same Jameela Jamil led an online pile-on against her regarding a new TV show she was doing,” Morgan tweeted alongside his screenshot of the message.

Flack was found dead in her north London home on Saturday 15 February after taking her own life.

The 40-year-old presenter had been charged with assaulting her boyfriend Lewis Burton last year and was due to stand trial. She denied the charge.
