Jack Whitehall fans will be familiar with his hilarious series, Travels with My Father, following the comedian and his cantankerous dad, Michael on their adventures together.
Ahead of becoming a parent for the first time himself, however, the pair embarked on a very special new documentary series, Fatherhood with My Father, as Jack attempts to prepare for the world of parenthood. The show also sees his mum Hilary take a starring role, who many will recognise from her pithy appearances in the previous travel series.
Discussing Jack's childhood with Good Housekeeping, Hilary describes her son as "always rather eccentric; the signs were there right from when he was a child, quietly watching TV in full Robin Hood costume."
She also reveals that there was one slight downfall to Jack's otherwise "lovely" and "wonderful" personality. She says Jack has many great qualities but that, unfortunately, "organisation isn’t one of them."
"In the early days, it meant last-minute lifts to gigs (he still hasn’t learned to drive, something I’m constantly on his case about) as he’d run into the house panicking that he couldn’t get a train in time for his slot," laughs Hilary. "And I can’t count the number of hotel rooms we had to turn upside down looking for his keys or a credit card!"
When it comes to being a dad however, Hilary says Jack had it sussed from the start. Jack welcomed his daughter Elsie in September last year with partner Roxy Horner.
"He’s a brilliant father and from the moment Elsie arrived, he’s absolutely doted on her, as we all do," says Hilary. "In the new series, Michael makes a lot of jokes about Jack needing to grow up before he becomes a dad– Jack faffing around with fairy lights during a birth-simulation scene in the show rather springs to mind – but the truth is, we weren’t worried at all. Jack has always been great with children; he’s like the Pied Piper and kids are drawn to him because he’s so silly."
Fatherhood with My Father is available to stream on Netflix
