J-Lo's New Hollywood waves are the epitome of Golden Globes glamour
The return of award season always has the Bazaar UK beauty team in high anticipation of stand-out hair moments, from trend-encompassing updates to elegant retro stylings. Last night saw the 81st Golden Globes present an ever-glamorous portfolio of beauty looks, from Elle Fanning's bridal ballerina ensemble to Julianne Moore's effortlessly replicable slick-back ponytail. One look reigned supreme, however, when it came to maximalist volume: Jennifer Lopez's Hollywood waves.
Lending its shape from classic cinema up-dos à la Rita Hayworth, the statement 'do was modernised with a boost of texture and undone volume. For make-up, the singer opted for a similarly feminine wash of dusty rose hues and pared-back dewy skin.
As we know by now, the preparation of any A-lister's hair is as important as the closing finesse. Celebrity hairstylist Chris Appleton worked a combination of Color Wow's Extra Strength Dream Coat and Xtra Large Bombshell Volumizer into Lopez's lengths with Tangle Teezer's Ultimate Detangler, before blow-drying with the Shark Beauty SpeedStyle.
He then shaped the hair into a classic Hollywood curl and added a texturising spray for an effortlessly modern update. After an additional backcombing and smoothing of flyaways, he set her hair with hairspray to complete the look.
Lopez was just one shining example of the red carpet's return to classic vintage beauty notes. Brie Larson debuted a similarly polished set of antique waves, while Angela Basset, Michelle Yeoh and Danielle Brooks aired on the side of volume. Generous backcombing and bouncy power curls galore. Taylor Swift and Margot Robbie's looks also borrowed from old school sophistication; think cascading waves in a far looser arrangement than Lopez's more polished than the typical beachy presentation and focusing on the hair's lengths rather than face-framing. All that considered, its safe to say that Hollywood waves are a timeless, undisputed victor when it comes to red carpet glamour.
