Supergran actress Gudrun Ure has tragically passed away at the age of 98.

The star, who found fame in the '80s children's TV series Supergran playing a grandma with superpowers, hailed from Stirlingshire, Scotland, and kicked off her acting career in an impressive array of series such as Casualty and Midsomer Murders since 1951.

Heartbroken fans flooded X, previously known as Twitter, expressing their grief over her passing. One wrote: "So sad to hear that actress Gudrun Ure has died today at the age of 98. Born in Milton in Campsie, she was a seasoned actress of stage and screen. She was much-loved as Super Gran, the main character of the 1980s TV show."

Gudrun's niece, Kate McNeill, confirmed her aunt's departure on a Facebook post. She described the actress as a "really kind" individual who would always cherish her recognition in her beloved role as Supergran.

However, the beloved actress is most renowned for her role in the Eighties TV series Super gran. Gudrun was 59 when she starred in the cherished series for which she is now best remembered.

The kids' TV show, which even sparked two computer games back in the day, was centred around a super-powered granny, a character lifted straight from Forrest Wilson's books. The late actor and theatre director Iain Cuthbertson played Gudrun's nemesis, the Scunner Campbell.

The series was such a hit with the young ones that it bagged an Emmy and was broadcasted in over 60 countries globally. It even gained massive popularity in Cuba, where it was translated into Spanish.
