ITV Coronation Street's worst-ever villain shockingly 'returning' after sickening scenes

Nathan Curtis - one of Coronation Street's most frightening villains - could be making a dramatic return to screens this summer

The character, played by Christopher Harper, was introduced to viewers back in 2017 when he groomed then-teenager Bethany Platt, before raping her in horrific scenes.

While Nathan, alongside his gang of attackers were thrown behind bars, he is set to be released from prison in the coming weeks. And, as Bethany learns the news, it looks like a dark new plot could be on the horizon for her, who also just returned to the soap at the beginning of this year.

A source told The Sun: "Nathan's easily the worst villain Corrie's ever produced. The grooming storyline was one of the soap's most important. The hope is that revisiting it will boost the show. It's a risk but it's one that producers hope will pay off."

OK! has reached out to ITV for comment.

When the storyline was originally on TV, scenes showed Nathan coming dangerously close to selling Bethany into sex work abroad, but thankfully she was able to call the police and escape his clutches.

This harrowing storyline comes weeks after it emerged that the soap was gearing up for its most chilling storyline yet, involving a tragic secret from over 20 years ago.

The devastating storyline will centre around Toyah Battersby (played by Georgia Taylor) who buried her stillborn baby in a park after being raped 23 years ago. Her secret will be revealed when she learns the park is due to be dug up.

Back in 2001, Toyah went out with Sam Kingston (Scott Wright) and ended up walking home alone. She was then attacked and raped by an unknown person before Jason Grimshaw (Ryan Thomas) found her and helped her get home.

Toyah later spoke to the police and was checked at the hospital, with several men in the area becoming suspects - including Peter Barlow, who was cleared by a DNA test. She struggled to cope and developed agoraphobia.

It was only when her friend Phil Simmonds (Jack Deam) tried to comfort her, she recognised his voice and realised he was her attacker. Phil tried to stop Toyah from reporting him but Peter heard her screams knocked Phil out. He was later convicted of rape and sent to prison.

Soon after Toyah fled Weatherfield, telling family she was going to reunite with Spider in London. However, it seems Toyah wasn't telling the truth.
