ITV Coronation Street's Roy Cropper's fate 'sealed' as fans spot DNA clue
Coronation Street icon Roy Cropper (David Neilson) could be facing a devastating twist this week as he's charged with the murder of missing teen Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton).
The Weatherfield community was left in shock when Lauren disappeared earlier this year, with her love interest Bobby Crawford (Jack Carroll) finding her flat unlocked and no sign of her anywhere.
The mystery deepened as viewers realised that Lauren hadn't informed anyone about her departure, except perhaps Roy, before she suddenly vanished.
After Bobby reported Lauren missing, Roy, known for his gentle nature, became a prime suspect, particularly after he was seen tidying up Lauren's flat, a gesture misinterpreted by some as evidence of guilt. This isn't the first time Roy has been accused; he was previously arrested under false suspicion of killing an ex-employee.
Now, with DS Swain (Vicky Myers) convinced of his guilt, Roy is set to face charges. In heart-wrenching scenes to come, we'll see Roy alone and fearful in his cell as he awaits his court date.
Fans have taken to social media to speculate on the outcome, with some theorising a twist that could exonerate Roy and uncover what really happened to Lauren.
One viewer speculated: "Could Lauren make a shock appearance at the trial? #Corrie", another suggested: "I feel this will end when Lauren turns at the trial as an unannounced witness! ! ! " and yet another fan urged: "Get Lauren to turn up in Court! ".
Meanwhile, a Coronation Street fan wrote: "Anyone else think DS Swain is Lauren's mum, and she's keeping her hidden somewhere? #CoronationStreet #Corrie".
This comes as actress Vicky Myers, who plays DS Lisa Swain, hinted at the arrival of her character's daughter.
DS Swain recently returned to the cobbles and has become a regular in Weatherfield as she investigates the disappearance of teenager Lauren. As DS Swain becomes more prominent on the soap, viewers will get to see more of Lisa's life outside of her police work, potentially introducing new characters.
In a chat with TV Times, Vicky gave some insight into her character "[Swain is] a single mum and a lot of people can relate to that. We're in the process of casting her 16-year-old daughter, and I think it's fair to say the apple doesn't fall far from the tree she's feisty, opinionated and educated."
Vicky continued: “It's going to be interesting watching Swain juggling her professional and personal lives. Also, we know she's gay, so is there another mother and, if so, is she involved?”.
