ITV announces Coronation Street and Emmerdale specials coming this summer
Exciting news for Coronation Street and Emmerdale fans, ITV has announced it will be airing three soap specials this summer alongside new episodes.
All three specials have been created to take viewers on a trip down memory lane, looking back at the most iconic moments and characters from the soaps.
The nostalgia-filled programmes will air alongside new episodes of the soaps throughout the summer.
Two of the three programmes will focus on the most memorable moments and the most iconic characters in Coronation Street, while the Emmerdale special will look at different generations of three of the soap's most popular families.
Looking back at the most memorable moments of Coronation Street over the last 60 years, Jason Manford with narrate an eight-part series that focuses on themes like the best scandals, villains and weddings in the soap, as well as stories that gripped the nation and much more.
A four-part series narrated by Sally Lindsay will look back at some of Coronation Street's most iconic characters, with each episode focusing on one character's journey in the show and thoughts from cast members past and present. The four iconic characters featured in this series include Ken Barlow (played by William Roache), Sally Metcalfe (played by Sally Dynevor), Liz McDonald (played by Beverley Callard) and Roy Cropper (played by David Neilson).
For the Emmerdale special, Gaynor Faye will narrate a four-part series looking back at three of the soap's most-loved families - The Tates, The Sugdens and The Dingles. The 30-minute episodes will look at different generations of the families and their stories throughout the soap.
Speaking about the special, Tom McLennan, Director of ITV Studios Entertainment North said: "It has been a joy and a privilege to delve into the archives of the nation's favourite soaps. The characters and storylines are as gripping today as they were then and it is the perfect opportunity to celebrate them."
