An Interior Designer’s Idyllic Connecticut Country House Hits the Market for $9 Million
A luxury home that comes pre-designed by a renowned interior designer? Sign us up! Renowned bicoastal designer Jeffrey Alan Marks, the founder of his own design firm, JAM, Inc., whose star-studded client list includes Amber Valletta, Gillian Anderson, and Paul Reiser, among others, recently listed his Greenwich home for $9 million. The designer, who recently moved from California to Connecticut, purchased the home in 2023 to redesign and sell it. Joseph Barbieri of Sotheby’s International Realty—Greenwich Brokerage holds the listing.
The turnkey property, revamped by the designer to showcase his singular style and taste, comes completely furnished, down to the artwork and decorative objects. Marks, who appeared a dozen years ago on Bravo TV’s short-lived reality series Million Dollar Decorators, approaches his design projects with fresh informality, tailored elegance, using a array of natural materials and globally sourced bibelots. The stately red-brick residence was built in 1928 and includes many Georgian design elements, which were either restored or recreated.

The Greenwich area is known for its plump, lush parcels of land—and this home on Stanwich Road is no exception. Shrouded in privacy, the home is set back on 3.17 acres and has a winding gravel driveway with towering mature trees and a beautifully landscaped entry. Vines cover the red brick-clad home that’s fronted by terraced parterre gardens and spans a generous 10,212 square feet with six bedrooms, seven full bathrooms, and two powder rooms. Once you step inside the light-blue door, there’s an immediate sense of calm thanks to neutral hues, natural light, and high ceilings. A pale blue color palette, paired with creamy ivory and white tones, continues throughout every room and adds to the feeling of cool elegance.
The home opens to a serene formal living room with Venetian plaster ceilings, a fireplace, paneled walls, and several windows. It also connects to a sunroom through Dutch doors, which has massive arched windows on every side that overlook the gardens. Marks has often expressed his love for the English design sensibility, and he even studied at the Inchbald School of Design in England and lived in Paris and Milan and, unsurprisingly, the home has many nods to Italian landscapes and traditional English country homes.
Opposite the living space is the formal dining room with a fireplace, 18-pane sash windows that drop to the floor, and walls lined with scenic hand-painted wallpaper by de Gournay. Light-blue accents continue here, seen in both the light fixture and wallpaper. The charming kitchen, designed by renowned firm Plain English, has two-toned cabinetry, a center island with a butcher block counter, and a large window overlooking the park-like grounds. A butler’s pantry has plenty of cabinetry for tableware and linens.
Elsewhere is a breakfast room off the kitchen with dentil molding and a fireplace, as well as a family room with an adjoining bar area with a chic rattan island for serving snacks. There are also two offices, a wine room, a screened porch, and a bluestone patio with a fenced herb garden. The upstairs primary suite has a fireplace, a sitting room with soaring ceilings, a marble bathroom, a gym, and a dressing room also fitted by Plain English. Rounding out the upper floor are three en suite bedrooms, each with whimsical wallpaper, and a stark-white children’s playroom.
Out back, a stone walkway leads to the gardens and a large lawn. Tucked under shady trees is an in-ground hot tub that allows you to relax and enjoy the surrounding beauty. The backyard is also perfect for al fresco dining in the summer, paired with croquet or lawn games.
