Proving that posting ‘candid’ shots on your feed needn’t require a ring light or a #OOTD, one influencer recently promoted £19 false eyelashes directly from the delivery room.
Social media influencer Lilly Ghalichi Mir announced that she had welcomed a baby girl via Instagram and, alongside a debut photograph of her daughter, revealed that she gave birth wearing her own-brand Lilly Lashes.
The 35-year-old, who formerly starred in US reality show ‘Shahs of Sunsets’, took to the digital platform to write: “Alara Mir ❤ Born 9/30/18. Our hearts are so full. Thank you for choosing us to be your parents. 💄 Wearing the “MILF” Lash during delivery by @LillyLashes from the “Living Your Best Life Collection” ✨”
According to her website, the lashes are part of Ghalichi’s ‘Living My Best Life’ collection and are currently on sale for $25 (approximately £19).
Unsurprisingly, a number of her three million followers took to the post to mock the timing of her brand shout-out.
One social media user wrote: “Can’t believe that you’re promoting your lashes even from the delivery room, you could have done this in separate post later. Your baby deserves more respect. Imagine growing up and seeing this post. What a shame.”
Another commented, “Who in the world would promote their lash line with birth of their child? That’s just sick.”
While one follower agreed, “Should be ashamed STILL promoting your brand whilst announcing such an important precious thing. What a joke you are.”
However, a few users took to the post to defend Ghalichi.
“I wish people didn’t judge everything others do. She can do whatever she wants,” one commented.
But with influencers with at least 30,000 followers now charging a minimum of £750 per post, is Ghalichi’s divisive post merely a glimpse into the future of Instagram?
