Social media app Instagram have announced plans to roll out a couple of new features aimed at making your comments a happier place – hurrah! The app say they're working towards allowing users to not only delete negative remarks more easily, but they also say they're planning to introduce a function whereby you can pick a favourite comment in order to "set the tone" on your account. They say the new features "mark the continuation of our effort to lead the industry in the fight against online bullying".
So far, so intrigued. But how exactly do these new tweaks to the app work? Well, for removing the negative comments, Instagram are now adding the option to tap and delete multiple unwanted interactions at once – rather than having to individually do so.
In a new statement, the app wrote, "We know it can feel overwhelming to manage a rush of negative comments, so we’ve been testing the ability to delete comments in bulk, as well as block or restrict multiple accounts that post negative comments. Early feedback has been encouraging, and we’ve found that it helps people, especially with larger followings, maintain a positive environment on their account."
As for the second feature which will allow users to highlight their favourite comment, Instagram said: "In addition to removing negative comments, we want to give people an easy way to amplify and encourage positive interactions. Soon, we’ll begin testing Pinned Comments."
This feature gives people a way to set the tone for their account and engage with their community by pinning a select number of comments to the top of their comments thread."
Err... how amazing? Imagine a future where you could essentially point a big ol' virtual arrow towards your mate's fire emojis comment under your latest selfie? We're already excited to use these new features when they officially drop for everyone.
