Inside the View, New York City’s Only Revolving Restaurant
For its latest opening, Union Square Hospitality Group is undertaking a revolution—in the most literal sense of the word.
Danny Meyer’s company is reviving the View, a rotating restaurant, bar, and lounge atop the New York Marriott Marquis. Opening Wednesday, the restaurant takes inspiration from classic American supper clubs, serving up a glamorous experience paired with food and drink standbys and live music to round out your evening.

The menu comes courtesy of executive chef Marjorie Meek-Bradley and encompasses all the American classics you’d expect. To start, there’s a jumbo lump blue crab cake with spicy remoulade, followed by entrees like seared duck breast with glazed turnips and dates. A section dedicated to steaks and chops features lamb chops and a bone-in rib-eye. For dessert, dig in to the Jubilee Sundae with stracciatella ice cream and brownie bites or the indulgent View Chocolate Cake with chocolate caramel ganache.
Drinks, meanwhile, are the creation of beverage director Ricky Dolinsky—the Stilton mixes Parmesan-infused vodka with kina and is garnished with hand-stuffed blue-cheese olives. The View has collaborated with a couple of other New York institutions on exclusive cocktails, too: The Katz’s Martini combines gin and dry vermouth with Katz’s blend of pastrami spices, while the Whipped and Swirled plays on Magnolia Bakery’s banana pudding. It sees Macallan 12-Year, Armagnac, rum, Averna, banana, and condensed milk topped with whipped cream and vanilla wafer crumble.
Besides the food, the View is most notable for, well, the view. Located on the 47th and 48th floors of the Marriott Marquis, the new locale is the only revolving restaurant in New York City, spinning a full 360 degrees every hour. (The bar and lounge will complete its rotation in 45 minutes.) That alone may entice you to take a seat, but the space has been redesigned by the Rockwell Group, one of the most lauded design firms in the country.
Upstairs, you can post up at the 10-seat bar and lounge before descending the spiral staircase to the 47th floor, where you’ll find the main dining room. Notable details include burl wood accents, faceted antique mirrors, and blue velvet drapery meant to evoke the stage curtains of the surrounding Theater District. While you could dine before or after a Broadway show, the View will also host nightly entertainment, allowing you to listen as pianists tickle the ivories in the piano niche.
“The View’s mission is simple: to capture the lively energy of Broadway’s Theater District showcasing a familiar American menu whose dishes are even better than you ever knew they could be,” Meyer said in a statement. “It’s your new ‘night out on the town’ where the floor just happens to rotate.”
It’s a distinctly retro experience, harkening back to old-school New York. Yet a look into the past has never felt so fresh.
