Inside Seven Oaks Ranch, a $20 Million Estate in California That Spans Over 100 Acres
Over the last month, two awe-inspiring ranches have been added to the U.S. real estate market: celebrity hairstylist Charles Worthington’s 150-acre compound in Colorado that listed for $25 million and Wyoming’s Gill Huff Ranch that spans nearly 200 acres near Jackson Hole. Another of these coveted rural listings, this one on the eastern edge of California’s Santa Ynez Valley, a wine-growing region about 30 miles northwest of Santa Barbara, is up for grabs for a cool $20 million.
Named Seven Oaks Ranch, the 103-acre estate is anchored by a Tudor Revival manor house that blends into the rolling landscape of Happy Canyon. Not a community in the traditional sense, Happy Canyon is recognized as an American Viticultural Area (AVA) part of Santa Barbara County. Alongside a host of vineyards, Seven Oaks offers arable farmland, horse stables, and a zero-edge pool set against a mountain view. Riskin Partners Estate Group and Carey Kendall of Village Properties and Luxury Portfolio International hold the listing.

The land for the ranch was originally listed at $11.9 million back in 2020; two years later it sold for $380,000 below the asking price, according to property records. The stucco-clad main residence, with steeply pitched gables, faux timber accents, and patterned red-brick chimneys, was built in 2022, along with a pool house and other ancillary elements, and first put on the market last fall.
Designer Jane Hallworth of Hallworth Design imagined the home’s interiors to seamlessly pair contemporary furnishings with elegant wallcoverings, traditional moldings, and natural materials that include 100-plus-year-old American oak beams. The three-story mansion is outfitted with imported European oak flooring beneath the living room’s detailed coffered ceiling. One of five fireplaces throughout the home keeps the space warm, while picture windows and French windows frame the landscape. Elsewhere are a spacious kitchen, an exercise room, and a four-car garage.
Well-appointed bedrooms span the upper levels of the home, including a primary suite punctuated by a cathedral ceiling enhanced by arched beams. The decorative wood-burning fireplace and dreamy mountain views are also worth noting, in addition to the massive walk-in closet and marble-floored bathroom that features a soaking tub encased in wood next to a floral stained-glass window.

There’s more to explore outside the house, too. There’s a vine-laced pergola for alfresco meals, an expansive kitchen garden for growing herbs and vegetables, and a zero-edge pool and spa that reflect the surrounding mountains on the glassy surface of the water. A pool house and barn are amid the manicured grounds, where an allée of sycamore trees leads to the four-stall stabling block, which features pine interiors, a tack room, and a stone turret that houses the manager’s quarters. About 30 acres of the ranch’s property are used to grow feed hay as well, which ranges from oat hay to barley mixes.
