Inside Martin Kemp's devastating diagnosis as he fears he has just 10 years left to live

Martin Kemp has opened up about how he was diagnosed with two brain tumours in his 30s, which left him fearing for his life and caused him to develop epilepsy. The musician and actor, 62, candidly discussed his health on new podcast with his son Roman Kemp.

The podcast, titled FFS! My dad Is Martin Kemp, is hosted by the father-and-son duo, with the first episode already seeing the delve into the topic of death. Asked how much longer he thinks he has, Martin candidly said: "10 years, I don’t know!"

The Spandau Ballet icon then recounted his battle with a brain tumour at the age of 34, which saw him undergo surgery on two tumours.

Alarm bells were first raised when Martin discovered a lump on the back of his head. And after undergoing an MRI it was discovered that he had two brain tumours, one just below his skull and a smaller one embedded deep in his brain.

At the time he underwent surgery, which saved his life, but left him with permanent damage and the possibility that the disease could later return. He's since developed epilepsy and has been diagnosed with dyslexia.

Reflecting on this during an appearance on This Morning, Martin said: "Having epilepsy is quite common for anyone who has a brain tumour or is recovering from one. I still take drugs to suppress it and will have to do so for the rest of my life."

And discussing the dyslexia, he added: "Whenever I read a script, the text jumps and moves around and it means I have to take my time. It also stops me from reading novels. Whenever I try, my brain does not want to do it and, if it sees a novel now, it will absolutely run a mile!"

Recalling his terrifying diagnosis on the podcast, Martin told his son: "When I was 34 and I went through that brain tumour stuff, I was practically resigned to the fact I was gonna die. But I was quite happy, because I'd lived the most incredible experiences.

"I lived through the 80s in a rock band, the people I met, the things I'd done. When I was 17 I was flying around Europe on jets drinking champagne at 7am.

"When I thought I was going to die I thought, you know what I'm quite happy. And that was back then, so every year that I live, every month that I'm alive now is a bonus."
