Inside Coronation Street star Paddy Bever's life off-screen from his real age to his ‘love’ for co-star

Actor Paddy Bever’s character Max Turner is currently at the centre of the Lauren Bolton mystery on Coronation Street, but while he may play a troubled teen on screen, his real life is very different from his character’s.

Following Lauren’s disappearance back in February, and the discovery of blood and human tissue in her flat, police in Weatherfield are treating her case as a murder investigation. After Roy Cropper remembered seeing Lauren with Max in the cafe before she vanished, fans are wondering whether Max could be involved.

One fan tweeted: “Why’s Roy got Max in his memory?” while another asked: “Is Roy having visions from beyond the grave that Max murdered Lauren?”

It’s still a mystery for now, but with Max in the spotlight on the cobbles, we take a look at actor Paddy Bever’s life away from Coronation Street.

Stockport-born Paddy, who is 21 years old, began his acting career as a member of the Cheadle Hume Players Youth Theatre before going on to join the Manchester School of Acting.

In September 2021, he joined the cast of Coronation Street as Max Turner, David Platt’s stepson, taking over the role from young actor Harry McDermott, who had played Max for 11 years.

In an interview with Manchester Evening News, Paddy said that he auditioned for the role when he was still studying for his A levels. “I had an A level the next day so I made the decision not to revise for the A level and focus on the tape. I then didn’t hear anything for a month so I presumed I hadn’t got it and then I got called for a screen test which was so exciting,” he said.

“I was so nervous but when I got there it just struck me that everyone was so lovely. I did my screen test with Jack Shepherd, then a week later I found out I’d got the role which was amazing. I also somehow got an A in the A level I didn’t revise for so it all worked out ok in the end!”

Since he joined the soap, Paddy has had some dramatic storylines to deal with, thanks to his character Max often causing or getting into trouble. Max was radicalised by a far-right extremist group, and in one of Coronation Street’s most dramatic stories, he became the victim of a nude photo leak after sending images online.

When the scenes were aired, Paddy told the Mirror: “I think it was very important to me to be very focused and to get it very right because this genuinely affects so many people.”

Currently, it is the storyline about the vanishing of Max’s ex-girlfriend Lauren that is keeping viewers hooked, but while Max and Lauren’s relationship may have been tempestuous, the actor has a great relationship with Cait Fitton, who plays Lauren, away from the cameras.

Cait posted a photo on her Instagram story after the British Soap Awards last year, captioned with the words “I love you.” Then in June last year, Cait and Paddy went on holiday together. Cait shared a photo on social media from the airport that said: “It’s time for our jollies bby @paddynever.” She later posted some selfies of the pair from an unknown location with a sunset in the background.
