Inside Coronation Street star Jacob Roberts' life from glam girlfriend to rescue pup

Coronation Street's Bernie Winter, portrayed by the talented Jane Hazelgrove, has been on a heartfelt quest to find her long-lost son Zodiac, and it looks like she might be getting closer to the truth.

In a recent episode, Bernie was seen continuing her search for the child she gave up for adoption nearly three decades ago. She thought she had found him in a man named Christopher Green - Zodiac's name after adoption - but he denied being her son.

However, as Bernie returned home feeling downhearted, viewers were given a clue that she might be on the right track when the man in question pulled out a jade elephant toy, identical to one Bernie mentioned buying for her son.

The plot thickens as we learn that this man is actually Kit Green, a detective brought in by DS Swain to crack the case of missing teen Lauren Bolton.

Jacob Roberts steps into the role of Kit Green, Bernie's real son and the new detective on the block in Weatherfield. Jacob is no stranger to soap fans, having spent six years as Damon Kinsella in Hollyoaks.

Overwhelmed with excitement, Jacob shared: "It's absolutely amazing... when I walked on set for the first time it felt a bit overwhelming because the attention to detail is just incredible, it actually makes you feel that you are on a real street."

Jacob, the former Hollyoaks heartthrob known for his role as Damon who left the village to open a bar in July 2023, is now making waves on the Coronation Street set.

At 33, he's thrilled about his new gig, sharing,:"My mum and dad are really chuffed too which is lovely. My mum has always watched Coronation Street, I've always kept up to date with it too, so it just feels surreal to be here. Meeting all of the cast and crew was great, I really do feel at home here."

He's also excited for viewers to get to know his Corrie character, Kit, although he warns that Kit might be misunderstood initially.

"I'm looking forward to everyone meeting Kit but I do think he is going to be a very misunderstood character at first. He's been really hurt throughout his life and although he has a good heart, he has some deep-rooted resentment with his biological mum, Bernie, which will be really interesting to play out."

Soap switch

Soap fans will certainly recall Jacob's stint as Damon on Hollyoaks, which he joined in summer 2017 and became central to several gripping plots, not least when he clobbered the dastardly Warren Fox (played by Jamie Lomas) to rescue Sienna Blake (portrayed by Anna Passey).

Before his soap success, Jacob cut his acting teeth in commercials for big names like HSBC and Alton Towers, and honed his craft at the First Take School of Acting in Salford.

Cute pooches

The pair have their shared passion for four-legged friends. Last September, they took a giant leap together - bringing home the endearing rescue puppy named Bugsy.

Sharing a heartwarming post alongside a picture of the cuddly canine, Jacob penned: "Bugsy was extremely timid at first and didn't want to come out of his travel crate but with the right encouragement, patience, and plenty of treats he soon came out of his shell."
