Inside an $8.8 Million Alpine-Chic Residence at Montana’s One&Only Moonlight Basin
Seattle-based architecture firm Olson Kundig is no stranger to contemporary mountain design. The global design firm is known for its raw, industrial style, and a common thread in each project is designing homes that seamlessly connect residents to the surrounding environment, which is exactly what the firm accomplished in their latest project: the private residences at One&Only Moonlight Basin in Big Sky, Montana.
Developed in partnership with Kerzner International and Lone Mountain Land Company, One&Only Moonlight Basin marks the hospitality brand’s first-ever resort and branded residences project in the U.S. and the first project in an alpine setting. The developers tapped Olson Kundig to design the 73-key hotel, the ski lodge, and the spa, along with 19 villas and 62 private residences. While the resort won’t open until 2025, many of the private residences are now complete and ready for occupancy.

Nestled within the foothills of Lone Mountain, each home blends seamlessly into the forest landscape One of the newest residences to come to market is an $8.8 million residence at 76B Roosevelt Road. The 3,670-square-foot home has five bedrooms and four bathrooms, plus oversized living spaces. Perched above the forest floor, it feels like you’re floating above the canopies of the evergreen trees, thanks to floor-to-ceiling windows in every room. There are also soaring ceilings that make each space feel voluminous and airy.
The cozy, two-level homes have multiple fireplaces and covered outdoor terraces that face the mountains. The bedrooms include a bunk room—perfect for families traveling with young children—and a bonus room that can be used as an office, private gym, or hobby studio. The private residences also have an attached two-car garage with a mudroom, outdoor fire pits, and a hot tub.
Olson Kundig is known for its use of the finest natural materials, high-quality finishes and fixtures, and impeccable engineering, which residents can expect in this property. The great room features a living space with a fireplace, a dining area, and a modern kitchen outfitted with custom cabinetry and Sub-Zero appliances. A buyer can customize the interior furnishings or choose between two design packages, one curated by Olson Kundig or another by a local firm, Gallatin Valley Design Group.
“To come into a landscape like this is almost like an invitation to a sacred situation, where it’s beautiful the way it is,” Tom Kundig of Olson Kundig said in a video. “How do you make an architecture that actually unfolds itself into that landscape, but also doesn’t detract from that landscape? I could not imagine a higher honor at this point in my career, to help create a place like this with clients who are sensitive to maintaining the spirit of a landscape and the spirit of a local culture.”
The year-round destination offers impeccable skiing in the winter (Big Sky is considered by many to be one of the best ski destinations in the U.S.) and hiking, biking, and fishing in the summer. Similar to most branded residence packages, residents can place their properties in a rental pool when they aren’t using them and One&Only will fully manage the home and process.
