As Women’s Health’s fitness director, I take muscle recovery seriously. I take regular rest days, I practice mobility, and I use at least one of my Therabody tools two or three times per week. The brand has been producing devices like their coveted massage gun, compression boots (my favourite) and foam rollers since it launched in 2016, and it’s now the go-to for both professional athletes and celebs, including Chelsea FC players and Jennifer Aniston. Admittedly, they’re not cheap, which is why Black Friday and Cyber Monday are the best time to invest, with up to 30% savings on 2024’s best sellers. Here are my top picks, including the ones I have at home and swear by.

Therabody RecoveryAir JetBoots

My Therabody compression boots are easily my top recommendation from the brand. I’ve had them for four years, and holidays aside, I’ve used them minimum twice per week. They use an integrated pneumatic compression system – a fancy way of saying a ‘mechanical massage – plus ‘FastFlush’ technology, which means each deflate and inflate cycle takes 60 seconds (two-three times faster than the average pair).

Your legs are compressed from your ankles to your thighs, which temporarily shuts off blood circulation, then, when the boots deflate, new oxygen-rich blood rushes through and saturates your muscles with all the nutrients they need to deter soreness after a sweat sesh. Cycles last 20, 40 or 60 minutes – I tend to go for 40 minutes, but I can attest that just 20 minutes will make your legs feel infinitely lighter. They’re not cheap at £549, but that’s a £150 saving, so now is the time to buy.

Therabody SmartGoggles

Struggle to sleep? These are for you. Using Therabody’s proprietary SmartSense technology, the SmartGoggles can recognise your heart rate via the pulse in your temple and slow it down using heat, vibration and massage. You can select which mode you use (focus/SmartRelax/Sleep), then modify each setting. For example, if the massage is too intense on the Focus setting, you can turn that down without impacting the heat and vibration settings.

All you do is slip them on, adjust the strap to fit your head and choose your preferred mode. They’ll switch themselves off after 15 minutes, leaving you considerably more relaxed, with less facial and eye tension – they’ll even relieve headache pain.

I tend to use mine during lunch breaks at work, when I’m working from home and feeling more stressed than usual, but my husband often uses them before sleep to help him nod off.

Therabody TheraGun Pro Plus

As I write this, it’s just days after completely jarring my neck and being unable to move it for two days. Upon seeing an osteopath, I was advised that my neck pain was a consequence of tight shoulders, and that I should try a massage gun.

I’m lucky enough to own the Theragun PRO Plus, and the osteopath was right – using even the lightest setting, my shoulders instantly relaxed, and I could visibly see the blood had rushed to the area (which studies show is essential for recovery).

The next morning, my neck had near enough healed. Of course, that’s not the only time my Theragun has come in handy. I use it everywhere – my calves, hamstrings, quads – and it works to relieve DOMS and accelerate recovery every time. What’s more, I’ve tried many massage guns in my time, and this is one of the quietest on the market. Top tip: try not to tense as you use the gun – it can feel sore at first, but the more you tense, the less effective it will be.

Therabody Theragun Mini Massage Gun

If, like me, you’re someone that likes to train on holiday, the Theragun mini is the one for you. It’s 20% smaller, and 30% lighter than the Theragun PRO, but it’s just as effective.

It features three speeds, comes with three attachments for personalised treatment (I like the ‘Thumb’ head for my lower back), and has a 120-minute battery life. It also comes with a handy case to protect it in your suitcase or handbag.

Therabody TheraFace Mask

I’ve tried many an LED face mask, but with the seal of approval from Women’s Health’s Beauty Editor Perdita Nouril, I’m desperate to give this one a go.

Reviews claim it can reduce redness and improve skin texture and smoothness, and I’m a big fan of the adjustable straps designed in a way that means you can continue with your daily tasks without the mask slipping down or falling off (an issue with my former mask).

Therabody Wave Roller™

If I’m not using my compression boots, I’m foam rolling. I tried Therabody’s Wave Roller at a gym during a trip to Los Angeles earlier this year, and who knew vibration could make such a big difference?

It features five vibration frequencies to choose from, from least to most intense, while at 12 inches, it’s also considerably longer than most foam rollers I’ve tried, meaning you can target a larger surface area of your body at once.
