I put 3 bestselling Amazon humidifiers to the test — which one's best to tackle the dry air in your home this winter?
They're all under $100, but one stood out above the rest.
It has been a very frigid winter, which has made for cold weather and extremely dry air. If you're like me, you've likely been experiencing chapped lips, brittle hair, congestion, itchy skin and maybe even nose bleeds. Well, my friend, it sounds like you're in need of some moisture. If you're going to survive the winter, you'll want to invest in some lip balm, hand cream and body lotion. And if you haven't added a cool mist humidifier to your cart, I recommend checking that out, too.
When I realized how low the humidity was in my house, I immediately hopped on Amazon and ordered myself a few to compare. After putting them to the test, I can confirm my house is much more moist. But the question is: which one worked best? Keep scrolling to check out all the pros and cons of each.

What does a humidifier do? 🪴
There are many benefits of using a humidifier — it can help with dry skin, allergies and respiratory issues. Indoor air can get uncomfortably dry, and humidifiers will add some much-needed moisture into the air. If you find yourself waking up with a dry throat, a cough, irritated eyes or even a bloody nose, a humidifier is just what you need. As a bonus, they can also help protect your furniture and indoor plants. If you want to breathe easier and feel more comfortable in your home, investing in a humidifier is key.
CHIVALZ 6L Humidifier
More than 5,000 people purchased this humidifier in the past month.
- Lasts a long time
- Doesn't require many refills
- Has a filter
- Swivel top to direct the mist
- Dial to control amount of mist
- Easy carrying handle
- Silent
- Adds moisture to my whole living room
- Can get very heavy
- I find it a bit of an eyesore
The details
This six-litre humidifier offers up to 50 hours of continuous mist with just one fill. This 2-in-1 device acts as both a humidifier and diffuser, helping to relieve pesky congestion, dry skin and coughs with its fine mist. It also has an essential oil tray so you can add an aroma to your atmosphere.
Its quiet operation and optional nightlight make it perfect for keeping on during the night. Plus, the design makes it super easy to clean and refill.
What I like about it
What stands out to me about this particular unit is that it has a carrying handle, which the other two, in comparison, do not. It's the easiest to fill and transport, which I appreciate because six litres is a lot of liquid.
Another noteworthy feature of this humidifier is that it has an essential oil tray, allowing it to double as a diffuser. I haven't put this to the test yet, but it's definitely a selling point that the other six-litre humidifier doesn't have!
Room for improvement
I don't have too much to complain about with this product — other than it being heavy. One thing worth mentioning is that I keep it on a stool to prevent the mist from falling onto the floor. This kind of makes it an eyesore in my living room, but definitely not a dealbreaker (as you should keep all humidifiers elevated to mix in with the air properly!).
ASAKUKI 4L Humidifier
More than 1,000 people purchased this humidifier in the past month.
- Smaller, more lightweight
- Has a filter
- Most aesthetically pleasing (in my opinion)
- Has a nightlight feature
- Features an essential oil tray
- Dial to control amount of mist
- No removable tank
- Not as large as the others (two litres smaller)
The details
This four-litre humidifier is perfect for all-day and night comfort with up to 40 hours of mist (on the lowest setting). It has a convenient knob to control the mist output. It also features a quiet operation and optional night light, which makes for a peaceful atmosphere.
It's considered a 2-in-1 humidifier and diffuser since you can add essential oils for an extra touch of relaxation. Plus, the top-fill design is great for cleaning and refilling. It also boasts an automatic shut-off function, so you won't have to worry about it running when the water runs out.
What I like about it
If I'm being honest, I find this one the most aesthetically pleasing — you can't see the water, and it looks more like a diffuser. I know it's smaller than the others, which can be a con, but I think it's the perfect size for smaller areas. If you're looking for a lightweight humidifier and don't need it to run for more than 40 hours straight, this one is ideal. It also has a lovely light and the option for essential oils.
Room for improvement
The worst part about this product? It doesn't have a removable tank, meaning you have to run the whole unit under water to refill it. This forces you to risk getting the controls and electronic features wet. Plus, as mentioned, it's smaller and runs for a shorter amount of time than others. For me, the less refills the better when it comes to the living room.
Levoit 6L Humidifier
More than 1,000 people purchased this humidifier in the past month.
- Removable water reservoir
- Large tank, minimal refills
- Can direct the mist
- Has a filter
- No essential oil tray
- No handle
The details
This six-litre humidifier is perfect for larger rooms, covering up to 505 square feet and running for up to 60 hours. You can enjoy more time without worrying about refills. The top-fill design and removable reservoir make refilling super convenient.
It has a silent operation, ensuring it won't cause any distractions, whether it's in your living room or bedroom. The control knob and rotating nozzle allow you to direct the mist where you need it.
What I like about it
My favourite feature of this humidifier is its removable reservoir — it's very convenient to refill, and since it holds six litres of water, it requires minimal refills. I love that you can direct the mist and that it's whisper quiet, too. I keep this in my bedroom, and it does the job perfectly.
Room for improvement
It doesn't have the option for essential oils, which is fine if you don't plan on using it for that. My biggest gripe is that it doesn't have a handle, so you need to two-hand it when refilling.
The verdict
So, you're probably wondering which is my favourite of the three, right? While the two six-litre humidifiers are nearly tied at the top, I have to say the CHIVALZ 6L Humidifier takes the cake.
CHIVALZ 6L Humidifier
Why? Besides it being the most affordable (at its current sale price), it has everything needed to make an all-around perfect pick. You can control the amount of mist it releases, as well as the direction of it. Plus, it has a filter, a handle, requires minimal refills and does a great job at keeping the main living level of my home moist.
All three options have been great additions to my home this winter, so I can assure you whichever option you decide to go with will get the job done.
