Huishan Zhang Celebrates Chinese New Year With a Dinner at China Tang at The Dorchester

LONDON — Huishan Zhang has made an annual tradition of hosting a Chinese New Year dinner with an intimate crowd of his friends of actors, musicians and creatives, as well as his friends and members of the press.

On Wednesday evening, Jessica Henwick, Katie Leung, Anna Shaffer, Isabella Wei and Olivia Hardy from the pop band Wasia Project joined the designer at China Tang at The Dorchester with many guests wearing beautifully embroidered pieces from the designer.

The dinner table that seated more than 20 was full with food and alcohol flowing freely — the menu included peking duck, a whole blue lobster stir-fried in XO sauce with crispy fried yellow noodles and a selection of dim sum, from a seafood money bag, dragon whiskers roll with caviar to a truffle and shiitake mushroom bao.

Zhang’s first time at the art deco restaurant was with its owner, Sir David Tang and his daughter, Victoria when he first moved to London for his studies more than 15 years ago.

“Now when people ask me what the best restaurant in London is, I always remember China Tang,” said the designer.

Zhang, who will be presenting his fall 2025 collection on Feb. 22 at London Fashion Week, has had some time off to enjoy the Chinese New Year due to the showcase being delayed.

Instead of celebrating the Year of the Snake in China with all his family members in China, this year’s plans took a detour as the designer travelled to Bali, Indonesia with his parents.

The festivities don’t stop there for Zhang.

His pop-up at Selfridges, which has been running for three months has been extended to the end of February to coincide with London Fashion Week.
