HUGH JACKMAN SAYS that he ate 6,000 calories per day to prepare for his return as the slashing superhero Wolverine in Deadpool & Wolverine. The actor, who stars in the film with Ryan Reynolds, has been revealing many behind-the-scenes moments from the recent Marvel film while on his promotional tour. This time, he gave fans a behind-the-scenes look at his diet.

Jackman was a guest on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon when he revealed the high caloric intake he was consuming to give himself the muscles and ripped abs he needed in his tight yellow supersuit.

When the Tonight Show host asked about how he got his body in shape for the role, he joked: 'You eat like steamed rocks or something. What do you have?'

Jackman responded to the quip, 'Yeah, sometimes I fry the rocks.'

But in all seriousness, Jackman said that preparing his body for the role wasn’t as free reign or luxurious as one would think.

'It’s 6,000 calories, and it’s not the calories you necessarily want. Like, half a pizza is 6,000 calories. But no, this is chicken, and it’s tilapia and beans. Tilapia and beans. I don’t know why tilapia. It must be some fish that is lean, and green beans,' the actor said.

Unfortunately, because of last year's ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, the star had to follow the diet for longer than expected.

'There’s one particular scene where I really wanted to focus on how I looked. And Shawn said, "Where do you want to do that scene?" And I said, "Let’s just put it to the end." And then the strike came, and I was like, "Oh, why did I say that?"' Jackman said.

Regardless of the unappealing and strict diet the actor had to follow, the Marvel star reveals in the end, 'It’s worth it,' and many fans likely agree after seeing the film.
