"We have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth.”
After nearly three decades of marriage, Hugh Jackman and Deborra-lee Jackman are going their separate ways. According to a statement shared with People on Friday, the pair is separating to focus on pursuing “individual growth.”
“We have been blessed to share almost 3 decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage,” the statement read. “Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth.”
The former couple continued, “Our family has been and always will be our highest priority. We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness. We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition in all of our lives.”
In addition to signing the statement with “Deb and Hugh Jackman,” the pair added, “This is the sole statement either of us will make.”

The actor and actress originally met on the set of the Australian TV series Corelli in 1995 before eventually tying the knot a year later in April 1996. The pair then went on to welcome two children together, a son named Oscar in 2000 and a daughter, Ava, in 2005.
News of their split comes as a surprise to some, as the couple was spotted together as recently as July when they attended the men’s finals at Wimbledon. Prior to that, the couple appeared at the 2023 Met Gala in May and celebrated their 27th wedding anniversary in April.
“I love you so much. Together we have created a beautiful family. And life,” Hugh shared on Instagram at the time. “Your laughter, your spirit, generosity, humor, cheekiness, courage and loyalty is an incredible gift to me.”
