Hugh Grant has praised the script for the highly anticipated fourth Bridget Jones film, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, which will also feature One Day's Leo Woodall.

Following the confirmation that Helen Fielding's 2013 book of the same name is set to be turned into a movie, the actor has promised fans that the script will be "very moving as well as funny".

"It's partly based on Helen Fielding's experiences of bringing up two children by herself after her husband died," Grant said (via People).

He continued: "And so Bridget is bringing up two kids and wondering whether she should ever go back to dating. It's a very good script."

Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy is currently set to be released on February 14, 2025, with Grant joining Renée Zellweger, who is reprising her role as the titular hopeless romantic Bridget Jones.

Bridget's story appeared to get a conclusive ending in 2016's Bridget Jones' Baby after her character married Colin Firth's Mark Darcy and they welcomed a son together.

Surprisingly, Firth is not amongst the returning cast, an omission which had initially left many fans curious as to the reason why after Mark and Bridget's seemingly happy-ever-after.

However, book readers will no doubt remember, the 2013 novel revealed that Mark had in fact been dead for five years, with Bridget left to raise her two children as a single mother.

Although it is not officially confirmed, Firth's absence and Grant's comments appear to suggest the movie will be picking up that specific plotline.

Joining Grant and Zellweger in the new film are Emma Thompson – who played Bridget's no-nonsense doctor throughout her pregnancy – alongside newcomers Chiwetel Ejiofor (Doctor Strange) and Leo Woodall (The White Lotus, One Day).
