However, rather than forgo your favourite food, it’s time to get resourceful and make your own.

Although making pasta may sound daunting, it is in fact, simple, quick, and cost effective. So, there’s no need to go without your favourite spaghetti bolognese or ravioli.

How to make homemade pasta

The ingredients you’ll need:

  1. 500g of flour

  2. Water

  3. 2 eggs

  4. A pinch of salt

A step-by-step guide

Step 1:

Pour the flour and a pinch of salt onto a clean work surface and make a hole in the centre.

Step 2:

Crack the eggs into the hole and then stir them in using a clockwise motion. Stop once the mixture is solid enough to work it with your hands.

Step 3:

Start kneading. This means working the dough with the heel of your hand in a rolling motion, rotating the dough as you go.

Kneading usually takes around 10 minutes - if the dough gets too dry, add a little water. If it gets too sticky, add a little flour.

The dough should spring back upon touch when ready.

Step 4:

Once the dough is kneaded, cover with a clean cloth (so it doesn’t dry out) and leave to rest for 10 minutes.

Step 5:

Next, roll out the pasta and start pressing and pulling the pasta using a pasta machine.

Alternatively, if making ravioli, cut out your shapes before adding a little filling into the centre and using egg to stick a top and bottom together.

Step 6:

Cook for a matter of minutes and add your favourite sauce.
