Spring is finally here and summer is on its way! If you’re looking to warm up that winter pallor, it can be tempting to reach from that bronzer and go to town but achieving a natural sun-kissed look can be tough to get right.

Here are five simple steps to give you that I’ve-just-come-from-the-beach glow. No tropical vacation required!

Step one: When applying your moisturiser in the morning mix in a small amount of gradual tanner to add a bronzed glow to your skin. This is perfect for adding some colour and warmth to your skin without using any makeup.

Step two: Apply your everyday base and eye makeup as usual. If your body is slightly more tanned choose a foundation or tinted moisturizer one shade darker than your usual shade to blend in with your neck and body. This makes it easier to achieve a natural looking sun-kissed look.

Step three: Apply a matte bronzer to the sides of your forehead, cheek bones and the bridge of your nose to warm up your complexion. These are the highest points of your face and where the sun would naturally tan first. Ensure this is blended in well before taking what’s left on your brush and blending it down your neck.

Step four: To add some radiance back to your skin, lightly apply a highlighter across the brow bone, cheek bone and down the centre of the nose. This will catch the light beautifully and give your skin a subtle sheen.

Try: Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Radiant Light, $26, Sephora.ca

Step five: An additional step is to apply some bronzer and highlighter to the collar bone and shoulders to really give a natural-looking finish. (It’d look pretty bizarre if only your face was tanned!) The bigger the brush, the more diffused the glow!

Try: Rimmel London Natural Bronzer, $8, Walmart.ca

Pro tip: To enhance a bronzed makeup look, opt for a orange based lipstick. This will compliment the skin and make you appear one shade darker than what you really are.
