How Long It Really Takes To Get Over A Hangover

A day’s worth of ‘Orange Is The New Black’, combined with a large bag of Cool Original Doritos and at least eight pints of apple juice mixed with lemonade. And maybe a Bloody Mary, if you’ve got your nausea in check. That’s how long most of us think it takes to recover from a big night out where far too many rum and cokes were consumed. But the reality is far more depressing.

In actuality, it takes our bodies two to four weeks (yes, WEEKS) to get back to normal after a big night out says dermatologist Dr Lancer, the man credited for helping Kim Kardashian’s complexion remain flawless.

So, if you hit the pubs and clubs regularly then chances are you’re suffering, big time.

“A glass of the finest red wine is 400 calories of sugar, and sugar triggers acne by inflaming the lining of the stomach – which in turn triggers a brain signal to produce more testosterone,” Lancer told Metro.co.uk.

But, as we all know, it’s not just our insides that booze attacks. It dehydrates the entire body, wreaking havoc on the skin. You may’ve noticed that your skin is less plump and fresh the morning after sinking six tequila slammers and this lack of moisture inevitably tends to lead to the dreaded ‘w’ word: wrinkles.

Fortunately, there are a couple of ways that those of us that enjoy a drink or two can do to save our skin. For a start, drinking plenty of water is always going to be beneficial. That will rehydrate your skin wonderfully. You could also switch up your beverage of choice. Experts seem to agree that clear spirits are the way forward, as they’re less likely to be crammed with extra sugar and additives. Red wine is another one to stock up on - as we’ve heard, it can actually be good for us.

But, of course, you’re best off skipping the alcohol altogether to ensure your complexion stays clear. Sorry.
