Love can be found in the most unexpected places, and sometimes it can even be found in a language-learning app like Duolingo!

Duolingo recently shared on its blog a heartwarming love story between two of their users of different nationalities, Amanda and Rob, that started with a simple congratulatory cheer.

“Who needs dating apps when you have Duolingo? Just ask Amanda and Rob, who met through Duolingo in 2021 … and got married last month!” Duolingo wrote on their viral post.

Amanda, who lives in the Philippines, was using Duolingo to learn Italian, German, French, and other languages, while Rob, who lives in the United States, was using the app to continue learning Spanish.

Rob couldn’t message Amanda on Duolingo, so he clicked her “congratulate” button for each language lesson she completed as a way to reach out to her. She did the same, and this went on for days and weeks.

Curious about who this friendly stranger was, Amanda decided to check out his profile and contacted him on Facebook. Rob confirmed that it was him a few days later.

“Little did Amanda know, Rob also tried finding her on Facebook, but with her name being fairly common, it was a shot in the dark,” Duolingo wrote.

Long-distance love

The couple hit it off instantly, and before they knew it, they were dating long-distance.

In 2022, Rob finally travelled to the Philippines to meet Amanda and her family. They got engaged shortly and tied the knot, with a “Duolingo-inspired multilingual greetings”, in January this year.

Their love story, many say, is a testament that love has many languages, and if spoken straight from the heart, it pulls everyone together, not apart.

Best wishes to Amanda and Rob, and may their journey of a lifetime be smooth-sailing.
