An honest review of the Stokke Tripp Trapp high chair
Picture the scene: your toddler is trying to wrestle their way out of the high chair after tossing half of their lunch over the chair and floor. The chair is a mess, your toddler is a mess, the floor is even messier - and you’re bordering on a meltdown.
While some high chairs are covered in hard-to-wash materials (or worse, material you can’t remove and put in the wash) and are difficult to clean, there are others that are made for the messiest and wriggliest of kids - and are super stylish to boot. Enter the Stokke Tripp Trapp® high chair.
It’s no secret that when it comes to baby and toddler products there’s a plethora of options on the market that cater to all different price points. With a £197 price tag without any of the add-ons (I’ll come onto those later), the Stokke high chair is one of the most expensive on the market. But it’s also one of the most durable, plus your child can sit comfortably at the dining table with you, and it can be used from birth with the newborn set, from six months to three years as a high chair, and from three years all the way through to adulthood (yes, really) as a chair.

How easy is the Stokke Tripp Trapp® high chair to assemble?
It took me around 20 minutes to put the chair together. It can be quite daunting when you open the box as there are lots of different parts and smaller boxes, but it’s pretty straightforward to set up when following the instructions. The only issue I faced was working out how the baby harness slotted into the chair as it wasn’t clear from the instructions that you need to have the seat set to the highest level otherwise it won’t click into place. I turned to a YouTube tutorial for help! Also remember to leave firmly screwing in the bolts until all the separate parts are slotted into place.
How functional is the Stokke Tripp Trapp® high chair?
The chair can be used with any standard height dining table, fitting nicely under ours, so my daughter is sitting comfortably with us at mealtimes. If you do want to use it elsewhere, it also comes with a plastic tray table (£63) which can easily be attached to the chair. Be warned, the high chair is pretty heavy if you want to move it about a lot. And be prepared for the fact that it’s also not a chair you can easily hide away in a cupboard or take down, but honestly you’ll never need to as it looks so good anywhere around the house.
On that note, another obvious plus point of the Stokke high chair is that it’s super stylish and will be a great fit with most interiors. It comes in nine colourways and I opted for the glacier green chair and the matching cushions which are made from 100% organic uncoated cotton.
What age is the Stokke Tripp Trapp® high chair for?
The Stokke Tripp Trapp high chair is suitable from birth up to adulthood (you can easily adjust the height of the foot rest as your child gets older), but I’ve been using mine since our toddler was 18 months old, so we’ve only ever used the baby set which I adore. The set includes the backrest, rail and extended gliders and we also have the cushions. She’ll happily sit in it throughout entire mealtimes of up to 30/40 minutes which I think is mostly down to the fact she’s sat with us at the table as she used to insist on getting out of her old high chair to sit on one of our laps instead.
How durable is the Stokke Tripp Trapp® high chair?
Made from solid wood, the chair is one of the most robust on the market. My toddler has tried climbing up it to get in it herself (definitely not encouraged, but, you know, toddlers) and it doesn’t move or tip, thanks in part to the extended rail gliders that come with the baby set.
Is the Stokke Tripp Trapp® high chair easy to clean?
As expected, lots of food always ends up on the footrest but as it’s wood it’s super easy to wipe down with a cloth after mealtimes, and the fabric insert is easily removable when it needs to be washed. I did notice the colour of the fabric had faded slightly in one area overtime, possibly due to the sun shining on it through our kitchen window over the summer months, and before I had first washed it. We also have the tray which my daughter once scribbled on with purple crayon, and that easily came off.
Is the safety harness worth it?
Another optional extra compatible with the baby set is the safety harness which is priced at £36 and is designed to keep your toddler (even more) secure in the seat. But is it necessary? In my opinion, no. My toddler is already secure enough in the baby set - there’s no chance of her wriggling out anywhere!
