Hollyoaks spoilers follow.

Hollyoaks has aired a tragic escalation in John Paul's alcoholism story in tonight's (February 14) first-look episode as his son Mathew-Jesus was hurt in an accident.

Following John Paul's relapse in last night's (February 13) Valentine's Day episode where he mistakenly took a drink from Mercedes' alcohol laden cup, but then continued to drink in secret.

As tonight's episode began, a hungover John Paul was woken up by Mathew-Jesus who told him he had promised him a trip to the theme park. After John Paul denied letting his son bunk off school an upset Mathew-Jesus stormed off.

After promising he was fine, Mercedes found that John Paul had hidden a bottle of alcohol and, during a heated discussion, John Paul blamed Mercedes for his relapse.

A hurt and bruised Matthew-Jesus had to get his dad John Paul home safe. Back at home, the McQueens were waiting for a pseudo-intervention but John Paul wouldn't listen.

"You had two choices today, you could either drink, or be a good father, go sleep it off because you don't want to damage that little boy any more," Mercedes told John Paul.
