“Hold up, they don’t love you like I love you. Slow down, they don’t love you like I love you” sings Beyoncé as she strides down a street wearing a mustard-yellow Roberto Cavalli dress.

“There’s something that I’m missing, maybe my head for one” she sweetly croons as she audaciously twirls around baseball bat right before smashing it through car window.

Beyoncé released Lemonade on the world in April, and Queen B wielding a bat and meaning serious business has gone on to become of the most iconic images in popular culture.

When Beyoncé bashed in that car window using a bat emblazoned with the words ‘Hot Sauce’, it summed up her visual album she was not to be messed with and that there is nothing more powerful and chicer than a woman scorned.

Fast forward to this month and Suicide Squad is everywhere and Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn - the sociopathic doll-face with ‘eyes only for her puddin’ The Joker - has already become one of the most recognisable film characters of the decade.

But it’s not just her tight T-shirt, hot pants and girly affectations that have caught the eye of every female cosplayer in the world but her brutal weapon on choice: the bat. Margot even became so attached the that bat that she, ‘sleeps next to it’.

When Harley psychotically beats her enemies to a pulp while trapped in an elevator it’s a blunt reminder that she may be mischievous and giddy, but she is always a swing away from causing hell.

And three makes a trend: on the other end of the scale is is Nancy Wheeler from this summer’s runaway Netflix hit Stranger Things. A seemingly conventional doe-eyed older sister, she is is far from the sort of onenote ‘pretty girl’ characters you are expected to see. I mean actress Natalia Dyer looks like a Disney Princess.

Not giving the plot away too much, her best friend goes missing spurning the ‘highschool sweetheart’ to weapon up. It’s her steely gaze and persistence that helps bring down the bad-guys. She’s studious and loyal, and like Harry Potter’s Hermione: incredibly brave.

Armed, be with it a baseball bat, a gun or a bear trap, she is ready to take on your worst nightmares whilst being true to herself and her beliefs.

So by Halloween, expect the bat to be everywhere. It may be brutal, but damned if it doesn’t make for good costume. Thanks Beyoncé, Harley and Nancy for the badass inspiration.
