Historic Charm Meets Bespoke Modern Design in This $5.6 Million English Country Manor
It’s not every day that a comprehensively restored and updated Grade II-listed English country estate comes on the market, and it’s only the third time in 300 years that the historic Sharrington Hall in Norfolk has ever been up for grabs.
Asking a cool £4.5 million (or about $5.6 million), the listing traces the property’s origins all the way back to the 11th century, with the majority of structures dating to the 16th and 17th centuries. The brick and flint home was formerly the site of a manorial residence and, at one point, could’ve been moated—which, in all honesty, would’ve been pretty cool. More recently, the residence underwent an extensive revamp at the hands of its current owners.

“Sharrington Hall is a beautiful Jacobean Hall which has been sensitively renovated throughout to provide a light-filled, elegant, and contemporary family home with perfectly preserved historic features,” says Phillippa Dalby-Welsh, head of Savills Country Department, in a press statement.
Altogether, the 13,282-square-foot home comprises five (and potentially six) bedrooms and five bathrooms, plus two powder rooms. The stately abode sports crisscrossed original oak beams, solid oak parquet flooring, and tons of other preserved period details, including wood paneling, stone-jambed inglenook fireplaces, oak bressummers, and stained-glass mullioned windows, notes the listing.
Past the gabled porch, the ground floor holds two large living rooms, a cozy dining room, and a 48-foot-long hand-built chef’s kitchen with locally sourced elm counters. Upstairs are a couple of guest or family bedrooms, each kitted out with an en-suite bath, soaring high ceilings, and windows overlooking the garden. Also on this floor, the primary is decked out with another inglenook fireplace, a dressing area, and a huge bathroom with a marble walk-in shower, while two additional bedrooms and baths, plus a third room that could be configured as an office or bedroom, are tucked up on the third floor.
Spanning roughly one-and-a-half acres, the picturesque grounds also feature a separate, Grade II-listed stone barn and, if you’re looking for a side hustle or just want a lot of options for putting up friends and family, another stone building that houses a collection of five turnkey cottages that currently contribute to an award-winning vacation rental business.
“With beautiful mature gardens, five immaculate holiday cottages, and an artist studio also perfect for guest accommodation, the boutique estate offers great scope and flexibility for a variety of uses and development,” adds Dalby-Welsh. “It is being offered for sale for only the third time since the 1700s and represents a wonderful opportunity for an incoming purchaser to combine family life with an established on-site revenue stream.”
