From cascading old Hollywood side partings from Jessica Chastain, Angela Bassett and Michelle Yeoh, to Halle Bailey and Kate Hudson's sultry cool-toned smoke, Sunday night's 95th Academy Awards show confirmed that when it comes to beauty, the Oscars are better than ever. Along the red carpet we saw countless of our go-to Hollywood beauty looks make a fail-safe return (cue the Monroe-style red lips and hazy Nineties nudes). However, the highly-anticipated annual Vanity Fair Oscars afterparty ushered in an entirely new shape for the classic smoky eye; meet the highlighted halo.

Sported by actor Sophie Turner, Internet personality Emma Chamberlain and ELLE UK April cover star Hunter Schafer, no less, the highlighted halo eyeshadow featured a brightening splash of shimmering shadow, neatly nestled between two contouring pockets of smokiness on the inner and outer corners; an eyeshadow sandwich, if you will. Showcased in a variety of iced and jewel tones, the alluring shadow placement was mirrored from lid to lower lash line for a mirage of smouldering colour that made a convincing case for playing around with hues on the under eye. That's right, no more just smudging whatever's left on your brush.

Game of Thrones' Sophie Turner opted for an icier version of the look, pairing a diffused kohl liner with a spotlight of silver shine. Her make-up artist Georgie Eisdell married the look together with a naturally nude flush across her lips, letting her oh-so-glam eyes do all the talking. As fans of a sparkly cool-toned hue, you'll find no complaints here.

Her gothic ensemble, styled with a sheer black cape dress from Louis Vuitton, which she wore during her arrival to the afterparty, tied the look together seamlessly.

Chamberlain, meanwhile, debuted an intense emerald take on the look, choosing a dramatic, contrasting jewel tone to go against her sheer navy KNWLS gown. The contouring eyeshadow matched hues of forest green with a frosty mint lustre for an eye-catching smokiness that's made a beeline straight for our 2023 beauty mood boards. The ex-Youtuber styled the striking look with a half-up baby fringe bob.

Over in the warm corner, Euphoria and The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes star Schafer channelled Botticelli's The Birth of Venus for her Oscars afterparty return. Her pared back version of the highlighted halo eye featured a lightly blurred brick-toned liner, a combination of golden, Champagne shimmers and Shiseido's TechnoSatin Gel Lipstick in 'Data Stream' for her barely-there blush toned lip. Pair the look with ethereal hip-grazing waves and a feather bandeau bra and you're left, quite literally, with a work of art.
