The Hidden Meaning of Chrysí Vardinogianni's Wedding Earrings

Earlier this month, Prince Nikolaos of Greece married Chrysí Vardinogianni, just over a week after they publicly confirmed their engagement. Now, new details about their wedding are being revealed—including Princess Chrysí’s wedding jewels.

Tatler reports that her “something new” was a custom set of earrings that she designed with Greek jeweler Serkos. Per the publication, “The initial inspiration for the earrings came from the creative idea shared by Mrs Vardinogiánni, who excitedly described the concept she envisioned. Drawing from her unique description, we crafted the earrings using marquise diamonds, which reflect light in a special way and create a sense of movement and grace.”

The earrings, which are in a leaf-shape design, had a deeper symbolism. “The winged arrangement of the leaves offers a fluid sense of lightness, while the diamonds that gently fall downward exude the natural elegance and dynamic beauty of the Achillea plant,” Serkos explained. Tatler also explains that the Achillea plant “holds deeply symbolic meaning, especially apt for a royal wedding. As a perennial bloom, the yarrow is said to represent everlasting love, and in ancient Greek myth, it was used by the legendary hero Achilles to heal wounds on the battlefield.”

Also for the nuptials, Princess Chrysí wore her mother-in-law Queen Anne-Marie's Antique Corsage tiara, as is family tradition, and a custom gown designed by Greek designer Christos Costarellos. Christos Costarellos “described the gown as combining classic and modern elements, tailored to the bride’s personal style,” per a statement. “His design harmoniously merges his love for rich Greek history and art with delicate, romantic details. Chantilly lace was selected for its quality and texture, highlighting the craftsmanship involved in the gown’s creation.”

This wedding marked a second marriage for both Nikolaos and Chrysí; Chrysí was previously wed to singer Stefanos Xypolitas (they share two children) and Nikolaos split from Princess Tatiana last year.
