But this year, you might want to turn your attention to the lesser-known ski destinations, which are waiting to be discovered in the very same countries. Chances are, you won't have heard of these under-the-radar slopes, but they're full of authentic charm – and benefit from smaller crowds, too.

Many of these give the big-name, classic resorts a run for their money, with world-class pistes and plenty of adventures to be had on and off them. With a little help from our friends at ski holiday operator Heidi, we've rounded up 10 of the best hidden gem ski resorts in Europe.

The best news is that Heidi is also having a Black Friday sale – from 25th November to 3rd December, you can save £50 per person on all ski holidays. And you'll also gain entry into Heidi's holiday prize draw while you're at it.
