HGTV star Egypt Sherrod shares her 6 bedroom must-haves, starting at just $7
The real estate and design pro tells us how she creates a relaxing retreat — including the pillow that solved her neck pain.
In the 17 years that Egypt Sherrod has been on HGTV, she's gone from helping people buy and sell homes to helping them design them too. The Atlanta-based real estate pro's empire includes not just a brokerage, but a design firm and line of furnishings. Most people, though, probably know Egypt for her series Married to Real Estate, which she co-hosts with her husband, builder Mike Jackson. The couple helps clients get into pricey neighborhoods by renovating fixer-uppers, all while managing their own busy family (they have three daughters ranging in age from 5 to 23!).
With everything Egypt has going on, it's no surprise that getting a good night's sleep is always on her mind. She recently teamed up with Unisom to encourage people to take a "sleep staycation" — aka time off devoted solely to resting. As befits an HGTV star, she also had lots of tips for designing a more relaxing bedroom. "When we have a better bedroom climate, our bodies function better," she explains.
Egypt's own sleeping space is all about "comfort luxe," she says. "If I had it my way, it would be all luxe, but my husband's got to have something too, so we have some comfort in there!" That means loading up on throw pillows and blankets and using different kinds of lighting to change the mood depending on the time of day.

The one thing on her bed she can't live without
"I'm a side sleeper, so I use a special pillow to make sure my spine is in perfect alignment and I'm not doing damage while I rest," Egypt says. This wedge pillow has a gradual slope to reduce neck and shoulder pain, and it comes in three different heights for maximum comfort.
Under-$10 essential
To create a soothing atmosphere, Egypt uses a diffuser filled with essential oils. "Some people love the smell of eucalyptus or of ylang ylang, but for me it's lavender. That just signals to my body that it's time to calm down and rest," she says.
Under-$100 essential
Egypt loves layering bedding, and she starts with Egyptian cotton sheets. These high-quality linens can run well into the thousands of dollars, but there are plenty of affordable options if you know where to shop, she says.
This set, available on Amazon, not only has an impressively high thread count (1,000) but more than 5,200 five-star ratings.
Most soothing must-have
For a truly immersive effect, Egypt uses a white noise machine alongside her beloved lavender oils. Though this gadget is pricey, Hatch is known for its stylish, well-reviewed sound machines. This one comes loaded with white noise, pink noise, brown noise and nature sounds — plus it wakes you up with light that gradually gets warmer and brighter instead of the jarring beeps of a typical alarm.
Favorite piece of bedroom decor
Believe it or not, the star of Egypt's bedroom isn't the bed — it's a plinth table she scored for $45 at a garage sale! "It's gorgeous with an espresso finish and gold leaf around the bottom and top," she says. "I could not believe they were getting rid of it. I was like, 'Is that for sale? Are you kidding me?!'"
Get a similar look with this accent table from Threshold, which has a richly colored veneer top and gold-tone metal plinth base.
Another plinth table, this one was designed by Egypt herself! Its one-of-a-kind checkered pattern is made from pieces of recycled coconut shells that have been hand-painted and distressed for a laid-back 1970s look.
Most relaxing piece of furniture
"We have a sitting area that faces the back of my house and overlooks the pool, and I put a gorgeous settee there," says Egypt. "I love to have my phone calls on it because it's almost like I'm on a staycation!"
This little velvet loveseat from Modway has a tailored look that channels Egypt's sophisticated aesthetic. More importantly, it's upholstered in performance fabric, a must at her house. "How dare I have cream furniture with a 5-year-old? It's finished with krypton!" she jokes.
On her wish list
Okay, so this isn't technically for her bedroom, but Egypt's eyeing a new set of holiday wreaths to hang from every window of her house. "As soon as Halloween is over, everything turns to Christmas," she says.
She and Mike recently lime-washed their red-brick house white, "and my dream when we did it was that when the holiday comes, I would hang these huge gorgeous wreaths with big red bows and outdoor lights."
This 30-inch wreath from Frontgate could very well fit the bill!
