Hey Scrooge! Stars who hate Christmas – from Pete Wicks to Molly-Mae Hague
Christmas Day has finally arrived – with the majority of people getting in the festive spirit. However, not everyone is a fan of this time of year – including several famous faces, who have controversially admitted they hate Christmas.
From reality TV stars Pete Wicks and Molly-Mae Hague to singers Ozzy Osbourne, Rod Stewart and Noel Gallagher, there's numerous celebrities who have shared their hatred for the Christmas period, with reasons varying from bad memories to waste.
Here, OK! takes a look at some of the famous faces who have openly admitted the disliking Christmas and the reasons for doing so...
Molly-Mae Hague
Influencer Molly-Mae Hague has surprisingly revealed she isn't a huge fan of Christmas, due to painful memories. She previously told her follows the occasion brings up "mixed memories".
When a fan asked about her dislike for Christmas, she wrote: "I'm honestly not sure why, but sadly, I do think it kind of stems from my parents being divorced. It's a little different when your family isn't all together. I know this is the case for so many people but Christmas always brings up such mixed memories for me."
Ozzy Osbourne
Black Sabbath star Ozzy previously revealed he hates Christmas due to the amount of consumerism. Back in 2009, he added to Express: "I have to unravel all these f**king presents. What a f**king waste of paper."
He then told Loudersound in 2022: “I’ve been saying to [wife] Sharon [Osbourne] forever, ‘F**k Christmas, I hate it.’ It’s for shopaholics and kids and so I’ve always wanted to work through Christmas."
Pete Wicks
Ex-TOWIE favourite Pete has been open about spending Christmas Day alone. Last year, he jetted to Australia to support best pal Sam Thompson on I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! and admitted he was "glad" to have missed the build up to Christmas.
Pete told The Mirror at the time: "I'm so glad I've been away and missed most of the build up to Christmas. The day itself is fine, but the build up before and the month after is awful. Too much before, and after it you just feel a little blue. For me, I've missed all the build up which is great - but then there's the panic buying of presents."
He continued: "I normally spend Christmas on my own, with the dogs. I find it a heavy, heavy day. I always go and see my mum in the morning and then I generally just sit with the dogs and watch Only Fools And Horses. I've got my reasons! That is pretty much my Christmas, job done. You can't beat the classics, I love the Royle Family too. A bit of Christmas TV with the dogs, living the dream."
Colin Firth
Despite having starred in hit festive film Love Actually, Colin Firth "loathes" Christmas. The actor opened up about his hatred for the holiday season back in 2009, admitting to being a Scrooge.
He told the Daily Mail: “I have a profound loathing of Christmas — it’s sad really. At this time of year, I am careful not to switch on the radio because those novelty jingles make me homicidal and plunge me into the heart of Scrooge territory.”
“I think Christmas turns us all into Scrooge. Everyone is trying to throw happy stuff at you, and that’s when I come over all humbug," he added.
Rod Stewart
According to Sir Rod Stewart's wife Penny Lancaster, the singer isn't hugely festive and doesn't like having Christmas decorations up at home.
While on Loose Women, Penny revealed: “Rod doesn’t love Christmas. He can’t wait till the decorations are down and his house is back to normal."
However, Penny tries to get him in the festive spirit. She added: “Just to lift his mood I put a little Father … Lady Christmas on. It puts a big smile on his face.”
Noel Gallagher
Noel Gallagher is never one to shy away from being controversial, so it may not come as a surprise that the Oasis star doesn't like Christmas. Speaking to Far Out Magazine in 2021, Noel said: “I f**king hate it with a passion."
He has admitted he's tried to give the festive period a "chance" over the years, especially when hit Oasis track Half the World Away was used on a Christmas ad.
“At that particular point I thought, ‘Christmas, you know what, I’m going to give Christmas a second chance here.’ I gave it a second chance, it was f**king s**t. Too much food, too much ‘We Are the World,’ the sweaters, the TV presenters, the s**t adverts, the f**king weather,” he added.
