Here's what Eliud Kipchoge wore at the 2023 Berlin Marathon
We can’t imagine more hard-hitting running news than the question of what Eliud Kipchoge wore to clock last weekend’s Berlin Marathon – especially because, in true GOAT fashion, Kipchoge finished the race in two hours, two minutes, and 42 seconds (about four minutes and 41 seconds per mile).
While Nike obviously outfitted Kipchoge in his NN running team red running vest and shorts, we had to do a little snooping to find out what wristwear the world-class athlete selected for the event. After combing through many images, we believe Kipchoge is likely wearing a limited edition Coros Pace 3, similar to the Pace 2 Eliud Kipchoge Edition.
The previous special edition featured red and green colours that matched the Kenyan flag. It also offered EvoLab, a training tool that predicts future performance at 5K, 10K, half marathon, or marathon distance. It even ranks each user with a marathon level of zero to 100, with Kipchoge’s sub-two-hour marathon as the model for a score of 100.
Of course, we’re not only curious about what Kipchoge wore on his wrist. The shoes caught our eye, and the internet is buzzing with the theory that they may be a prototype of the Nike Alphafly Next% 3. The Alphafly Next% 2 came out last summer, offering a thicker insole and an even more dramatic arch than its predecessor.
While we don’t yet know when we’ll be able to get a hand on the latest edition to the Alphafly universe, it was great to catch a sneak peek of the super shoes on one of the world’s most celebrated athletes.
