Before you start your closet refresh for fall, take a step back and think about what you should actually be shopping for.
Even if you don't truly need anything new, there's always something to be added to the closet, it's just a matter of what that might be. This season, we're letting the stars guide our shopping.
Astrologer Valerie Mesa guided us through the fall outlook for all the zodiac signs so we could narrow down exactly what each one should be shopping for this season. But we wanted to narrow it down even further, so we zeroed in on denim. Denim is classic and universal — and you can find anything made in denim (no, really, there are denim boots in this shopping guide!).

Aries (March 21-April 19)
"Aries is about to slay cuffing season, turning heads in their favorite pair of jeans. The epitome of a bad girl or boy from Mars," Mesa says.
Channel that energy with a pair of sparkling jeans, like this wide-leg pair from Good American. They'll add a little whimsy to your wardrobe and make you feel like you can conquer anything — especially cuffing season.
Taurus (April 20-May 20)
"Taurus is highly attuned to their senses, finding joy in statement pieces that enhance their Venusian aesthetic," Mesa says.
A streamlined denim skirt is right in line with what Taurus is looking for this fall — nothing too out there but something that adds some newness to the closet. The dark wash of this skirt makes it a good transition piece into the colder months as well.
Gemini (May 21-June 21)
"Fall is here and Gemini’s going places; the right pair of boots will take them everywhere," Mesa says.
It's all in the details for you, Gemini, which means that a statement piece like a denim boot will do you right.
Cancer (June 22-July 22)
"Cancer’s feminine mystique will be hard to miss, as the fall begins with Venus in Scorpio accentuating their sultry silhouette and moon-ruled aesthetic," Mesa says.
Cancer is intuitive, tenacious and all about nostalgic cozy pieces, making a boyfriend-fit shirt the perfect pick. It gives you that mix of feminity and comfort.
Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)
"Leos are sticking to what’s familiar this season, but still making an entrance in signature leopard print," Mesa says.
Okay, so it may be a little on the nose, but you have to admit that a Leo will always look amazing in leopard print. You can't go wrong in a bold pair of leopard-print jeans, and these loose-fitting cargo trousers are a modern silhouette that will be right on trend this season.
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)
"Polished and poised, Virgo is making cozy look chic this season, effortlessly combining comfort with sophistication," Mesa says.
Old Navy's jeans mix comfort and sophistication, so you can curl up on the couch with a good book, go out for drinks with friends, get your groceries and do everything in between, all while wearing a pair of these trouser jeans.
Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 23)
"Libra is ruled by Venus and is the quintessential coquette, effortlessly charming and trendy," Mesa says.
This fall, Libra is destined to bring that love of trendiness to life — and we support doing that with a little bit of a splurge. Splash out on that denim handbag! It's not so trendy that it'll go out of style quickly (we promise!).
Scorpio (Oct. 24-Nov. 21)
"Scorpio swings between alluring and incognito to unapologetically bold, making their presence felt in unexpected and unforgettable ways," Mesa says.
Make your own bold presence known this fall with an all-over denim look. A denim trench is an unexpected piece of outerwear that'll keep everyone talking, long after you've left the room.
Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)
"Sagittarius is embracing their sex appeal and free spirit, always ready for the next adventure in their bohemian staples," Mesa says.
If you don't already have a denim vest in your wardrobe, this season is the time to get one. This Paige vest is the perfect cut to wear on its own, amping up the sexiness factor and sending you full steam ahead into the new season.
Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)
"Capricorn leads by example, always opting for classic and timeless pieces," Mesa says.
This fall, switch out your go-to black blazer for one that's made of denim. A tailored cut with a bit of embellishment is a step up from casual but shows your colleagues that you've mastered the "office siren" trend in a professional way.
Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)
"Aquarius is redefining their goals and reputation this season — something more eclectic and out of the box," Mesa says.
Barrel jeans are certainly out of the box, and you have to be ready to take a trend risk when slipping these pants on. But you can do it, Aquarius. This season is yours to own.
Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)
"New beginnings are inevitable for Pisces this season; dressing for the occasion of transition sets the stage to turn their dreams into reality," Mesa says.
Nothing says bring it on quite like a pair of fashion-forward overalls. This of-the-moment silhouette — which can work for anyone! — has that same ultra-trendy barrel cut, but you can rock any pair with confidence.
